If a software VPN cannot be loaded onto the Apple TV device, it will operate behind a hardware VPN Router. We use a LibertySheild device £19.99 from Amazon and £6.99 per month

You are far better using a different method than a VPN.
Most VPN,s will eventually get blocked by Iplayer etc, and you will be continually looking for new ones.
Its possible by changing your DNS settings on your device or router to connect to a UK server directly, giving you iplayer etc, if you require UK TV. This will work for any country that you try to connect from or to, to watch TV thats blocked from your country.
If you have already purchased this device I can give you the instructions how to change your settings, its dead easy and you can try it free for a couple of weeks. After that there is a small 2 yearly charge for use of servers.
This will work on any device from any country without downloading or installing anything.
If you have not yet purchased it pm me for some alternative ideas.

I use a Libertyshield VPN too.
All my stuff is connectedected to it either by Wi-fi or LAN cable - 3 smart tv’s,
IPads, phones, a Sky Box with legit UK card/account for catch up
TV.....and an Apple TV.
All devices think they are in the UK.
Faultless, easy setup, and excellent support with the firm HQ based in Scotland.
Can’t fault it - recommended.
