Dog Mess

Same in El Recorral - lazy people soil the area and responsible dog owners far labelled incorrectly.
I was disgusted the other day as i went out of my gate and someone had allowed their dog to leave me a ‘gift’. I unfortunately had driven my car wheel over it before I realised but still had to pick it up and scrub the pavement! I never leave my dogs dirt and I wash the path if he should do it on the walk home!!
Wish we had a dog patrol

I had a similar experience to Toonlass. The owner allowed the dog to poop right in front of my terrace while I was standing there.I asked,in Spanish, are you going to clean it up.The owner waved a plastic back in the air, said na na na na na and walked off.I followed him home then returned to my home, picked up the poop in a plastic bag and returned to the owner's house and knocked on the door.when he answered I chucked the parcel over his shoulder into the house. No trouble since .

Well done Big wheeler, more people should do that. I have heard sonewhete that the police can trace the dog through its poop, sonething to do with matching up the identity chip through the vet, but maybe I was dreaming and who would want to pick up a poop and take to police?

Some years ago there were reports that some local authorities in Spain were going to DNA test all dogs with the aim of targeting those owners who leave mess behind.Never heard any more though.More recently dog owners were supposed to carry a bottle of some kind of disinfectant to squirt around their animal's deposits. That appears to have fallen into disuse too.In Algorfa lamp posts now have a messsage in 2 languages attached asking owners to clean up after their pets.Something similar has been posted around for the 17 years I've been here but I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever been fined.I suspect the reason is the same as inconsiderate parking is rarely prosecuted. That is because the police don't want to alienate the local population.

A national law was passed in Spain in 2013 regarding the collection of dog DNA, which has to be added to the dog's identity chip. However, it was left to the municipal town halls to roll out the scheme - our town hall in Formentera del Segura finally got around to it early this year, but friends who live in Rojales say it hasn't been rolled out there. Our town hall gave all dog owners a couple of months to have it done for free at Benican vets in Benimar, but after the deadline, owners had to pay about €35 to have it done. Owners are issued with a barcode tag that has to be attached to their dog's collar, so the police can see at a glance that they have complied. Perhaps responsible dog owners in Rojales should be asking their town hall why they haven't rolled out the scheme?

Good idea but then an irresponsible dog owner is not going to bother getting the DNA done if they are not even bothered picking up their dogs poop!

I would imagine if you haven't got the barcode on the dog's collar the Police would fine you for non compliance if they stopped and checked, so either way irresponsible dog owners could come a cropper.
I hope Rojales think about doing this. I have no issue with it as I always pick up after my dog anyway and something really does need to be done to try monitor this awful problem.

Well, a couple of weeks ago we were watching telly having some snacks which included a couple of spare ribs. Rather than leave the bones in the bin overnight I went and put them in the bin. When I came back I kept smelling shit, I sniffed my fingers thinking it was the BBQ sauce smell, couldn't think what else it could be, just couldn't get rid of the smell, ohhhhh when I looked down I had trod in dog shit so it was in the porch, lounge and worst of all, all along the edge of the coffee table where I put my feet!! It was all stuck in the patterned sole of my flip flops, bloody hell, it stunk. Out came the bleach!!! So we get it here too.
