i dont think its disproportionate, i just wish coverage that these tv firms was proportionate, ie the amount of coverage of the floods here in spain was barely shown i saw more coverage on facebook

A lot of the problems are because of the way we pulled out.
Do you mean, because our tenancy came to an end and we had to vacate?

No because we only gave UK (European) passports to the ultra wealthy. When we had promised a FULL UK passport to all.. before anyone says they would all come to UK the then governor Chris Patton said at the time (he said we betrayed them) biggest application was for Canada and Germany. More came in from Portuguese Macow then Hong Kong as they were given EU passports

Not at all
The joint agreement is due to expire in 2047 and China have broken the rules
Did you not see the prog on recently about re-education camps in China?
My own take is that the media have been there to watch the escalation (i.e. live ammunition) and that started today

I travelled to HK and China from 1987 till 2015 and I also worked there.
The people of HK were ruled by the British and they always saw themselves as more advanced than their Communist ‘cousins’. And they were, as they had freedoms and wealth the Mainlanders never had until more recently.
When we pulled out of HK in 1997 it became a Special Administrative Region for the next 50 years. However, it seems the Chinese want to exert their authority early, step by step, and this is what the HK residents are fighting about. The HK and Chinese people might look alike and have shared ancestors, but they are totally different.
Despite all the fine talk in 1997, I feel that the British government knew that they were walking away from something that might get messy. If my memory serves me right, the British strategy to split the Indian Empire into India, Pakistan and Bangladesh was not without severe problems which still exist over 70 years on.
I for one have an interest in HK and have friends there and want to know what is happening. But when you go onto a news website there are pages for UK, Europe, Asia, USA, Africa etc so it is easy to skip stories about HK if there is no interest.

I wonder how many communist sympathisers or other Chinese government lackeys have been sent to Hong Kong in recent times for the prime purpose of starting civil unrest. So that the Chinese Government can take total control and blame the Hong Kong residents.

They are there to capture the moment that the PRC army is unleashed.
They are hoping to capture another Tiananmen Square photo opportunity.

Apart from all the politics..
I just think that Sky, BBC etc spend a lot of money sending reporters, camera men, producers etc to Hong Kong and China. They are hardly going to bring them back next day, so they make sure they have their monies worth.. so they are on TV hours and hours..
It is all about money I expect..

It also detracts, somewhat, from what's happening in the UK.
Be prepared for our cynical PM to announce something outrageous here if, it all kicks off, over there and the news teams switch there focus entirely on HK

Boris will announce what we have been all expecting.. a plan that is totally at odds with what the EU want.
They will throw it out and he will blame everyone else except himself..
Pity really, I could live with a deal, if he proposed a reasonable one.... (I would rather they cancelled Article 50, but I could live with a deal).
