I Cant see what all the fuss is about to be honest, all the excitement of winning the World cup, it's a spur of the moment thing isn't it.

Mountain out of a mole hill. Usually if there's a story in which the media will simply not drop, something is happening in the background which they don't want peoples attention on. Either that or some new law will be passed in the future after this non-incident.

I was surprised that he did that and had hold of her head securely with no chance of escape.
Normally if you don’t want an on the mouth kiss you have the chance of turning your head slightly.
I personally think there’s more to this than we know.
Maybe it’s because I’m English but was surprised at Queen Leticia’s enthusiastic hugging- couldn’t see Camilla or Kate doing that!

After watching it again, she pats him on the sides after the kiss. Not typical behaviour of someone that feels they have just suffered some sort of personal violation. Although maybe she was just going along to get along or something. The kiss itself was very brief. Was it bad taste and judgement from the manager? Probably. He's been suspended now so one would think that would be the end of it. Ironic that her surname translates to beautiful isn't it?

I have only seen still photos and never watched the incident completely but at one point the lady footballer squeezed the guy tight and lifted him off his feet.Was that the lady who was offended ?

Yes, it was her.

It's all gone tits up for him poor sod. My friend (more like a mum) used to hold the side of my face and kiss me on the lips, not a long lingering kiss, just a peck, nothing in it I do the same to my dad. I kiss anybody but not on the lips, just on the cheek. I think it's all blown up out of proportion. Now, hest lost everything, or almost.

You don't read the Spanish press much then, nor watch Spanish TV.
Glance at El Pais, El Mundo, La Vanguardia and even the local Indepencia and ABC Valencia and they are full of it. It seems some of them want his head to be put on a pike outside Zarzuela Palace whilste others would like to see it used as a ball in the next game at Nou Camp. La 1 and La 2 have led on this story in every news broadcast since at least Friday.

And virtually every European paper is full of it. Look at Der Spiegel or Le Monde for example.

And FIFA are talking of banning Spanish clubs from taking part in European competitions.

Not just "English" media.

Such as shame as this fairly well run competition should have ended in celebrations for Spain but, in a few years, nobody will know the result but they will still be talking about this load of OTT ballyhoo.

Luis Rubiales is not the manager of the Spanish ladies team.
All he needed to do was apologise and say that what he did was in the spur of the moment. He did not do that, he offered an apology with a BUT….. hence a non apology, Rubiales has made his own trouble.

I am not saying what he did was right or wrong. And everyone will have their own opinions on that.

You of all people having lived here longer than most and are probably more tolerant and supportive than most as to the Spanish ways and cultures. But, as chrisidee who started this post says what was fundamentally wrong?
Personally, i thought the crotch rubbing was the greater insult. But again I don't profess to understand Spanish Culture.

Unfortunately the British Media seem to think they have a Global Monopoly on what is right and wrong in the world with scant disregard for others' culture...

Lets look no further back than the Men's World Cup in Qatar... And we all know the BBC's stand on that.
