New regulations E bike
New regulations E bike
by cerveza » Thu Apr 04, 2024 3:58 pm
Hi all, last December I have read in an English newspaper about all the changes for 2024
There was a link where you could check if your e bike was allowed in Spain or not…
It’s not the DGT link but I can’t find him anymore…
Does anybody knows where I can find it please?
Regards Cerveza

Hi there, does anyone knows the correct site to find out if an E bike is still allowed in Spain…
It’s not DGT …
I did read about it in an English newspaper December last year but can’t find it anymore…

Those that have no input from the cyclist should be registered (electrically driven).
Electric assisted bikes are fine.

I was told that all new electric bikes must be type approved which will be done by the manufacturer. I'm not sure if it applies retrospectively but a bike shop should be able to tell you. I haven't actually seen the directive, this was information from a retailer.

Thanks for your answer, such a shame I can’t find the site anymore…
I know that mine(from the UK) can’t be used anymore after the 1st of January 2027
But I wanted to help others out that’s why I’m searching for that site…
I hesitate now if it was in the Focus , that little coloured magazine who came out beginning December 2023…
All that DGT says that. E bikes will have to pay road tax!!! Ridiculous but it’s in their site…

I really hope that doesn't turn out to be correct as riding our bikes is a major part of our holiday and we can't afford to replace them with "compliant" bikes. We're already banned from entering loads of cities in our camper so rely on the bikes for transport. We did hundreds of miles on them last year. The person who told us gave the impression it would apply to the selling of new bikes but it was just a passing comment so not specific. Please let us know if you find out the details.

Can someone explain to me why cyclist seem to think they should be exempt from the rules that apply to other road users, licensing, safety of vehicle, tax and insurance not to mention rules of the road.
They have expensive cycle lanes built exclusively for their use at other road user's expense and then ignore them causing delays on the now reduced width carriageways. For all of this they (mostly) seem to think they should not make any contribution, have the right of way, often be a danger to pedestrians and other road users (who have paid to use the roads) and ignore all the rules (again).
Just to stop accusations of bias, I do also ride a bike.

I think that this just applies to new electric scooters after a certain date. There was a warning on the N332 facebook page advising potential purchasers to make sure that they got a certificate from the seller as the rule would be applied retrospectively.
This might be the link...https://n332.es/new-e-scooters-require-certification-from-january/
