Another friend of mine has told me he has no Spanish account at all . He pays his utility bills and SUMA directly via on line accounts and pays using a Halifax credit card. No charges whatsoever. Also uses same card to withdraw cash in Spain .
Are you sure it is a Credit card and Not a Debit card

I wondered where the €225 came from.
I'm charged €30 a quarter for the HolaBank account - so €120 per annum total - it's a non-resident joint account where both my other half and I have Visa debit cards.

I have changed to wise it’s the best thing ever I have had a spainish bank account for 22 years and have paid a lot of bank commission I wish I had changed and saved myself a lot of money
I got my fiscal rep to change all my direct debits ( which they charged me €25) but everything was done and no problems

I also moved everything to Wise in May-21 and have Water - Agamed, Electric - Curenergia formerly Iberdrola, Suma and Internet all coming out by direct debit.
You get much better rates converting from £ to € than with any other bank
Most ATM withdrawals charge a fixed fee, I withdraw €600 or more for cash payments when I'm there and pay using my mobile or debit card. There's a daily limit for ATM withdrawals of £1000 in one go, £1500 in any day and £4000 a month
A few other points about Wise.
You can operate the account using the mobile App or online using a PC. You don't have to be UK based to open an account, only have to prove your identity, not your address.
You can telephone them if you have a problem, unlike Revolut and many other digital banks.
