Not exactly going well, is it?

not exactly a Gorbachev quote but about what the aim of USSR policy was, mentioning Gorbachev)
So Gorbachev didn't say it then?
Yet there were memes quoting Gorbachev verbatim and they were completely made up. Who made them up and why? There were memes falsely quoting Putin as well. They're still being quoted now and yes, it is important. It's deliberate manipulation. If you're going to quote, do it accurately.
Here's what he didn't say.

I don't think it matters where you choose to live as a pensioner to be able to have an opinion on matters. To have a UK pension you have had to contribute to the pension system over years of working for or within the UK so the point you make is quite contentious really. It doesn't matter if you live in England, Scotland, Germany Spain or Timbuctoo to be honest if you are a contributor you are entitled. I am sure that there are people all over the world watching what is going on in the UK with some incredulity and there are going to be those who view the UK's position in the world with positivity. We can all have a voice.

So the Guardian is the font of all truth, yeh right. The quote form the paper highlights their stance on bashing Britain but look at the first line - lipstick, cravats etc so how many millions of pounds do we export to the USA. Are we supposed to let countries put sanctions on us and do nothing in response.
‘What do lipstick, cravats, gold chains and poker chips have in common? The answer is that they are among a host of items that the US is threatening to impose punitive import tariffs on if the UK proceeds with its plan to implement a tax.”
We all have our opinions and have a right to give them, but what should be happening is that we do not start snide comments because you do not agree with another person.

The typical 'unpatriotic' right wing tory response is downright insulting. I love Scotland and its its international socialist politics, happy at the way it voted to stay in the EU and hope it will be back in soon. Its so sad and embarrassing how Johnson and his inept govt is ruining the UK and its credibility.
cjrk is there any chance you or one of you pals might enlighten me on how Johnson has been anything but an absolute embarrassing disaster in his personal life as well as his leadership? Ok the vaccine programme is an NHS positive, thanks mainly to medical staff, the military And volunteers, but anything else?
Do you really think he projects the kind of UK we can be proud of? I can provide a long list of bozo's U turns and pig's ears if you are interested but I suspect the wool is well pulled down over the eyes.
You'll have to point out to me where I praised Johnson or even said anything remotely good about him. As for Scotland leaving the UK and joining the EU, well good luck to you in that. Hopefully you'll get the referendum you've been after for ages and leave and see if the grass is truly greener on the other side. I haven't got anything against the Scots, indeed I served alongside them when I was in the army and loved it. My opinions are mine alone and I respect everyone else's although I might not agree with them.
Great, its official then there are no bozo fans out there who can point out how he is not embarrassing and ruining Uk.
Cjrk I suppose I fell into the trap of assuming you were a bozo groupie because you trotted out the usual well practised tory rhetoric.
I had hoped there was a tory who would have come up with an answer to the question of what has this useless govt ever done for us but yet again nuffink. Maybe they have all seen the light or more likely we do not have any of the cronies who have benifited from Hancock's shenanigans.

Excellent!
And yet, their comment from earlier
“I can understand why some people on here have left the UK as they seem chuffed to bits when anything happens that puts the UK in a bad light. What's the point in whittering on when you clearly can't stand the country?”
Yes, a fine example of being quite respectful.

The fact remains that Boris was voted in by a majority, so regardless of the views of expat pensioners in Spain, the majority of the UK population want a tory government headed by Boris.
Despite him having the most difficult period of any PM in recent times, having to manage and balance the economy against the virus and drive through brexit, he is still the most popular politician in the UK. This is what all the regular polls show. Labour has made some gains, but remain behind the tories and Boris. So has said, despite all the Boris bashing, he's in for the long term, as are the tory party, because that's what the majority of the UK voters want and the polls show they still want.
So can't be doing that bad them.

True. Probably because the majority of the UK population had been convinced that they did not want a government led by Jeremy Corbyn, and that's understandable.
"Boris" is a proven, incompetent, liar. His mates call him Alex, He's in the position he is in because of personality politics. His carefully cultivated "worzel gummidge" look appeals to many people, who remember his appearances on "Have I got news for you" fondly. This is the most talentless and scarily right wing Tory government in my lifetime. I voted Labour for the first time in my life at the last election, because I thought they were closer to the centre.

That's why, my preceding words were OK, if it is that important to you, I believe it stems from this
- then quoting the piece (sourced from The Brussels Journal - "the Voice of Conservatism in Europe)
about a speech by Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky (speaking in Brussels),
In that piece its author wrote "former Soviet president Mikhail S. Gorbachev put it more succinctly when he told the official Russian news agency, Ria Novosti, last week that 'It is all about influence and domination in Europe.'” (New York Times, 4-18-07)
Your opinion of the piece - that it is merely a series of memes - is one that you are perfectly entitled to take
I carefully ended my post with for the really Right Wing slant go to (a link to The New American) - that hardly conveys a recommendation
There was nothing I wrote that sought to hide about where it all came from or to support its accuracy - and there was no attempt to mislead

Not exactly going well, is it? is the heading.
Maybe the question now is where does it go from here. Cummings yesterday wielded the big stick and coolly branded hancock a useless, serial liar who should have been sacked and johnson a loose cannon, unfit to lead the country. To some of us this is an accurate summation which has been evident since 2019.
I'm no fan of cummings but another of his views that registered with me was that the system was failing when the electorate was only given a choice of PM between corbyn & johnson, when patently both were unfit to govern.
Both of the main players have denied the allegations and I suppose its now up to cummings to back up his assertions. If the claims are accurate my view is that both Johnson & hancock should go
