I think more of a bit of confusion over residents and visitors. If you are under 70 and become a UK resident you can drive on it.
The gov site says:
"Driving over the age of 70
If you were younger than 67 when you became a resident, you can drive on your EU licence until you’re 70.
If you were 67 or older when you became a resident, you can drive on your EU licence for 3 years after that point."
This doesn't apply to those who are resident in Spain who can use it providing it is still in date.

(And, jpeg, I'm a bit younger than you but 3 hire companies I tried wouldn't let me hire a car over 70. I now use Enterprise and have no problem with hiring one from them. They don't even ask your age but others say up to 70 only.) Quote
I have used Enterprise for 20 years and am an Enterprise Plus member There are quite a few more companies that have no age limit
