Passport - exit stamp the

Having read about the woman ‘Linda’ who was refused entry to Spain as she had not received an exit stamp after her week long stay in June and was then seen as an overstayer. I realised that my husband and I had not had our passports stamped when we left from Alicante airport after our 9 night trip this September.

Have others had this? I am now concerned that I may not be able to come to Spain when we have our next trip which is not until 21st December.

Will I be classed as an overstayer??

Who knows? However, I’d have thought that, when scanning the passport, that information would be stored electronically.

I’m led to believe that the article came from that, anti EU rag the Daily Express, which delights in inflaming it’s readership and, is renown for it’s accuracy in reporting

Yes I’m hoping that they have the technology to find my exit from Spain! But would be a devastating trip if I was refused entry and marked as a overstayer when we have only been to our new house twice 2 yrs!

I agree with Glassfull….the scan is where all the data is recorded, the wet stamp is for the drama.

We have just returned to the UK after a week in Quesada, at no time was our passports scanned or even checked. On entry at Alicante the queue was slit into two those with children,us, and those without. Those with children queued for at least thirty minutes whilst one customs official checked the passports, realising that the queue was now outside the terminal he stopped checking them and we were all told to “open our passports at a blank page” this was stamped and we were sent on our way. Exiting was even worse as all the electronic gates were closed, Spanish officials had to go up and down the queue finding people for certain flights that were waiting to take off. Total chaos!!

Hi, didn’t get an exit stamp at Alicante when leaving in July, however had no issues gaining entry on a subsequent visit in October (and did get the exit stamp that time). Do find it quite depressing getting stamps in the passport from Spain though ..

Thank you for your comments, I’m sure the Spanish don’t want the extra fuss at their airports, I will have to ensure I get a stamp each time now, just for peace of mind.

I’ve spoken with a few people whose passports were not stamped or even looked at when arriving Alicante airport. Do the authorities cross-check dates/names with airline passenger lists?
