Podology on public health system?
Podology on public health system?
by marianna13 » Wed Jan 10, 2024 1:08 pm
I have a bit of a complicated ingrown toenail problem that, unfortunately, even the lovely podologists Vanessa and Nuria can't fix. So wondering if anyone knows if such foot problems might be covered on the health system, so I'd get a referral from the docs?
Alternatively, does anyone know of or can recommend a private specialist?
Many thanks.

My wife had rather a nasty ingrowing one as well. Went to Isana-T by the Quesada Boulevard who treated it and dressed it on the first visit. Re treated and dressed on the 2nd visit and much better.
Now all cleared up and just goes for the clipping and massage bit now with all problems cleared up.
30 euro a session and my wife reckons it's like walking on air when she comes out.

Interesting thank you. Did they have to cut through the toenail at all?

Have a chat with the lady in the Beauty Rooms near El Faro Bar and Lube Garage. I haven't used her yet, but have been told she works in Quiron Hospital as well in the Podiatry Department, might be worth just calling in if you're nearby.

I can thoroughly recommend Isana T in Quesada. I couldn't touch my toe as it was so painful, but she worked some kind of magic and sorted me out.

Spoke to my wife who tells me she also had some infection. The toe was sprayed with something like Lidocaine and then clipped and pulled rather than cut. Then sterilised and bandaged.
Next was about the same with a special tool used to pull the nail and again dressed.
Infection had cleared up on the third visit and she has been going about every 6 weeks now to get them done and it is perfect as is the treatment given to the other nails.
She used a couple of others before that, including one that gets recommended here, but nothing actually cleared up the infection or the ingrowing bit but paid more attention to filing and varnishing.
Now she has a regular slot at Isana-T. A couple of the ladies speak English but they have a translate app on the phone which works great.

My goodness your poor wife! So glad it's much better though. I've no infection, but the nail is just digging into the side of my toes (same one on both feet).
Really appreciate all of the replies- been very helpful- thanks very much.

Did the podiatrist not recommend next steps? I.e. if they can't fix it, where you should go next ? Whether through the existing public health system or through paying privately? I would have thought that their recommendations might be the ones to follow.marianna13 wrote:I have a bit of a complicated ingrown toenail problem that, unfortunately, even the lovely podologists Vanessa and Nuria can't fix. No, they didn't make recommendations. Just cut the surrounding hard skin and hoped for the best, I guess.
