Private Rentals

Hello, does anyone have any knowledge of renting privately. I have seen somewhere and know there will be a contract but was just wondering if there is anything I should be wary of??

Hi Bevben,
I don't have any personal experience of private renting but I would think that as long as you have an official signed contract that suits you, with a set notice period of termination for both you and the landlord, then it could be OK.
Renting through an agency, although no doubt a bit more expensive, would at least give you a 'middle man' to deal with for any possible problems with the property.
However if you feel able to sort out minor problems yourself and call the owner/landlord for anything else, then maybe private rental will suit you.
Hopefully, someone else may be able to give you more first hand advice.
Jan.

Bevben
Please could you keep us posted on how you get on. Would be very interested in the private rental process. We have just put a deposit down using estate agents. I think we thought get a feel for the place first and then when on the ground maybe look for the next 6 month rental and maybe include private rentals but with a recommendation sort of thing in the search criteria. Also we didnt have much time in our last visit to hunt around. Short and sweet and made a quick decision about the rental.
Good luck with the house hunting. I hope it all goes well for you.

Hi
We just happened to drive past and saw a sign on the top of the house, we were already renting somewhere but didn't want to stay there any longer.
The owner had drawn up a contract in both Spanish and English and we went through everything together and changed or made more clear some of the things on them. She had previously lived in the house, but for the last twelve months had rented it to someone.
I did knock on the neighbours door a few days before who confirmed everything we had been told so we did feel a bit more settled and her English was very good so wasn't as difficult as I had thought.
Anyway my contract starts next month sowill keep you informed.

Hi, Bevben. We wanted to rent a duplex in Doña Pepa from mid-December to mid-January. We have been at the hands of the signed contract. We paid 100% advance payment full balance of 500.00 Euros plus 300.00 Euros damage deposit= Total 800.0 0Euros. When we arrived, our home we have not been granted. The company is called RSG Properties. (UK), site: http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/rojales/215323. Their representative lives in Doña Pepa at - Av. Malaga, 48. With us ceased all negotiations! They did not return us our money! I advise you to find the a hotel room. If you go for a long time, find a suitable home is on arrival. It will be better for you. Beware of scams
