Problem with condensation

Problem with condensation

Postby Ireneinveraray » Mon Nov 19, 2018 6:08 pm

Looking for advice to get rid of condensation. Don’t know if it’s the metal frames on the windows causing it. We’re Using aircon heating and the house is warm enough. Is a dehumidifier the only answer? Very grateful for any advice.

We use a dehumidifier, it does not cost much to run and is better than the mold that the condensation causes. I always run the dehumidifier when having a shower and also when I have washing that is drying in the house, just to ensure there is no damp and no mold. Have not regretted buying one, actually have one upstairs and one downstairs. We do use the night/day tariff for the electric so the electric is cheaper to run then. Good luck, you will find it is better than the air conditioning for getting rid of the damp.

Thanks for the info Andrea (from a fellow Murphy) tried the aircon on dry tonight and it’s worked (so far) I’ll carry on with that just now and see how it goes but if not I’ll definitely be buying a dehumidifier.

I find opening the windows for 20mins to vent the rooms in a morning helps ,I open my windows about 4inches in a morning the close them at night ,no more mould, slight condensation on metal frames which drys away quickly. No heating on yet in apartment ,no neighbours either side giving me any heat either, thermal vest on when needed, cheap as chips from decathalon warm as toast, try and do washing on a sunny day and hang outside to dry, dont have anything up against external facing walls inside like a wardrobe etc, leave an air gap for the air to circulate.

I agree with glassman, but i tend to leave 2 or 3 windows slightly open, only a couple of millimetres all day, and leave the doors open so air can circulate, never had any damp problems since i started doing this and the window isn't open enough to affect the heating in the house. Alternatively, perhaps if you installed a couple of air vents in your property, (ground level and ceiling level) to help circulate the air if you don't feel comfortable leaving your windows ajar.

Thanks everyone for your very helpful comments. I used the aircon on dry last night for a couple of hours and so far no more condensation. Hopefully that’s the answer and time will tell.
