Retirement/care homes in or around Quesada

Compared to some around here it's not expensive. We had no choice at the time, COVID was in full swing we couldnt view anywhere and many places were fully booked. As for my friends 9k a week which I think is bloody ridiculous, it's a 5 star care home, she was paying 2200 a week then dad fell over and broke his hip, as she works in a hospice as a councilor she got together with the other management, composed a letter using key words, like 'neglect' and said she would not allow him out of hospital and returned to the home unless he had 24 hour care one to one. That's what she got, FULLY FUNDED by the Govt. So they now pay the 2200 which he was paying plus 6600 for the one to one care - PER WEEK. The thing is, he's now bedbound, so the carers hardly have to do anything. How could he afford it, used his savings and money from house sale, he deserves the best and if you can afford it, all good and well.
Although I'm happy he is getting good care it's very unfair that amount is being funded by the govt when others cannot even get into a carehome.

I looked at the Rojales home for temporary care following having both hips replaced as I live alone. I found it cost prohibitive even for a couple of weeks.

A lot of people are not aware, but You Can get help from the Spanish government, respite no but long term care you can. You have to apply and it takes forever, Rojales is quicker than Torrevieja. Depending on what kind of care you need depends how much you get. Obviously you need to be a resident and have paid your taxes. We did get help but because it look so long it only lasted a few months, but every little helps. Some people in the same home were fully funded.

Centro de mayores mar Bella… terrible place…staff doing wheelies with people in wheelchairs… manual handling skills non existent…only a very few activities on offer nothing for poor sight… very very noisy… and like all places here people are restrained during the day as well as night… often left for hours sitting in wheelchairs without any form of pressure relief.
My mum was there for a very short time I couldn’t leave her there …she came away from there very underweight and frail that was nearly 2 years ago. Being a carer myself for many years I will never understand the need here to dose people up with such strong sedatives which really does not help….care is expensive always best if possible to carry it out at home or return to uk where there is financial help available.
Apologies for rant….

Where did your mum go after that?
That was around the same time my mum had to go away, it was awful as there were no activities in her home either because of covid nobody was allowed in, that's not the homes fault. My parents have a very large house but it wasn't equipped for her to be taken care of there, adapted bathrooms etc. We enquired about 24 Hour care but it was crazy money, over 200 for a 10 HR shift. it all had to be dealt with there and then, that's why we chose a home. In an ideal World we all want to care for our loved ones but it's just not possible, especially one with dementia.
