Socialists Won the Spanish Election

Socialists Won the Spanish Election

Postby richardlionheart » Mon Apr 29, 2019 12:07 pm

Spain’s governing center-left Socialists won the country’s election Sunday but must seek backing from smaller parties to maintain power, while the Nationalist euroskeptic party rode an unprecedented surge of support to enter the lower house of parliament for the first time in four decades. With 99% of ballots counted, the Socialists led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez won 29% of the vote, capturing 123 seats in the 350-seat Congress of Deputies. The new nationalist Vox party made its national breakthrough by capturing 10% of the vote, which would give it 24 seats

So, business as usual for us ex-pats.

10% of 350 seats is not 24, the Francoists (Vox) only got just under 7%

Richard didn't say they got 10% of the seats, he said they got 10% of the vote which is correct.

With so many political parties its difficult to obtain an outright majority, with the vote being split so many ways.

Sanchez said it was a vote for the EU...

And here´s me being told repeatedly that the EU is disintegrating and that the far right will take over soon..

I am happy with the outcome.. the current government have been making good noises about expats.. I didn´t want a government that was against immigration being in power--

However, if only 7 out of every hundred voted for the far right, that might take some time..

Nothing so overworked as ‘Marxists’ either.

So, why do people look to the extreme opposite, when opinions differ?
