New dog walking area in Dona Pepa 2 - Near Consum

Postby Jan » Thu Nov 27, 2014 9:11 am

There is a newish dog walking area on Dona Pepa 2, not far from the Consum commercial area, one side faces Avda. Salamanca and another side faces the Avda de Malaga.

It's a fenced in field which has been cleared of shrubbery. There are entrances on all four sides with doggy waste bins and a sign outside saying, "Area for Dogs with belt"(belt being an unfortunate translation for a 'dog lead')

What a shame your dog has to be kept on a lead. I have a labrador retriever who loves to just run, and I can't think of any places on Quesada where you can do this. Not the place for my dog I'm afraid. A couple of years ago we brought our dog over with us from the UK for 5wks holiday but would never do it again as not a lot of space for him to have a good old run. The UK is better for labs who love do dive into water, whatever the weather, and have a lovely long run.!

Yes I agree. I thought the reason to have a big open enclosed area was so a dog could have a good run around. I'm not sure of the reason to say keep on a lead but I expect it's for the safety of other dogs and possibly other owners but most people want their dogs to exercise and there's no point going into an enclosed area if the dogs can't be let loose for a while. I hope that people use their discretion and let their dog run around when no other dogs are there. It didn't seem to over-used as each time I've gone by there was no-one in there, so there could be opportunities!

Responsible dog owners do pick up after their dog and carry 'poo' bags with them but there are those owners who certainly give others a bad reputation. The Avda de Malaga pavements are particularly bad for dog mess, so the siting of this dog area is probably no co-incidence but not sure the minority of irresponsible dog owners who don't care will even use it!

I have used this area a couple of times but I will not again. Although there have always been an ample supply of bags available, there was plenty of evidence that some irresponsible owners could not be bothered to use them and the bins provided.

This dog park is littered with much debris and cut my dogs paw we will not be returning . There are so many great dog walks around my retriever has never been so happy we regularly see guardia civil at the reccorral and there has never been a problem with her off the lead as she's under control.

Recorral Park is at the bottom of Calle Romeria on La Fiesta development, top end of Quesada.
We have friends who live next to it and will be visiting in the next few weeks, glad to get away from wintry East Kilbride. Plenty of good walking in the Park but beware of the processional caterpillars as there a lot of small pine trees in there.

Indeed beware of the processional caterpillars in the Recorral Park. I do not take my dog there because all it needs is a split second to contaminate and result in a painful, possibly fatal incident. Go to the dog walking area and ignore the 'belt' sign! What is the point of the area if your dog cant run in it! Crazy! You can walk a dog anywhere! Consideration for other dog users is paramount of course and when someone else enters the area put your dog on the lead and sort out whether the dogs are welcome to run together or not. Regarding rubbish in the area, please pick it up (also poo if its your dog!) and put it in the bin. I take a recycle bag with me sometimes and fill it full of rubbish! Mostly remember it is there because of the high winds we have had lately. Its a great area to run your dog safely if used properly!
