To all dog owners: Beware ticks are about and quite big

It is useful to have on hand a bottle of Benedene ( I think that's the spelling).It is a brownish iodine like liguid and comes in a yellow plastic bottle. Once you have pulled the tick a gentle dab on the affected area helps to clean the entry point. Large sheep/goat ticks ...like a coffee bean are nasty and will suck blood if left in..the smaller spider like red ticks need to be teased out and squashed between finger and thumb. Hope this helps.

It's worth knowing that a local goat farmer often brings his goats to graze on the vegetation on the Dona Pepa fields - He comes from a farm over the CV905 between the arches and the consum roundabout and every so often the goats can be seen grazing in any of the open fields all the way down to opposite the Laguna Hotel. That could be part of the reason that the Ticks are around these fields during Tick season.

Hi All
Just been reading about the tic problem for dogs are you not able to buy over the counter or from vet or pet shop ( are there any in CQ) we use front line or program here in UK at the moment which stops tics and fleas.

Is this an 'August' problem or all year? We will be coming over in October with our Black Lab so will be prepared!

Get some Desinclor from vet, its a good all round antiseptic, dilute with a drop of water dab it on if you cant get tick out it soon comes out, dab again when tick is out,
