Travelling by car to Quesada with dog

Travelling by car to Quesada with dog

Postby Mansfieldc » Fri Jan 04, 2019 5:34 pm

Advice please. Has anyone travelled via Eurostar to France and then on to Quesada with a dog?
I am looking at all the options for bringing our dog over for several month this year. I have contacted several dog transport companies but because of Brexit they are all holding on till end of March before getting their schedules together. We want to be in Quesada around the beginning of April.
I am also looking at travelling by ferry but there are only a few dog friendly cabins available on each sailing.

What's the procedure on Eurostar? Do we stay in car with dog till we get to France? Silly question I know but I have no idea how it works. Thanks for any advice.

The dog stays in the car with you all the way if you use Euro-tunnel

Get out and walk around if you want. There are also toilets for you to freshen up. Only takes 35 minutes.

Quickest and easiest by far are the motorways but there are the tolls to consider. If there is more than one person that can do the driving then it’s cheaper than hotels for yourselves and pets. So, to sum up. Motorways are quickest as per your original question with plenty of stopping places. I’ve done it a few times and it was very easy.

We Travel several times a year Dover Calais, 2 people one dog, dog stays in car during 90min crossing. drive through France and Spain no tolls, 21 hours driving time, 28 hours total trip to los montesinos, with 10 to 20 min stops every 2 to 3 hours, for dog peeing, grab a buttlie n a coffee etc...plus one 5 hour stop in the night kipping in the car.

You need passport for the dog, rabies vaccination prior to leaving U.K. and can set off straight away if needed, but dog can’t return to U.K. until at least 3 wks after the vacc was done but as you are staying for several wks that’s not relevant. Dog needs checking over by a vet (Spain or France) within 5 days of return ferry, proved by a stamped passport. Hope that helps good luck.

If you search Booking, com or hotels.com there are filters for selecting pet friendly hotels. You should be aware that some hotels will charge up to 15euros per night to have your dog sleep in your room, whereas others charge nothing. In addition, some hotels have plenty of free parking and others will charge another 10 euros for that too.
It is very difficult to recommend pet friendly hotels because it all depends how far you get through France and Spain before you need to stop for the night and what route you are taking.
Personally I would recommend out of town hotels that are close to your route and just involve a short detour to your hotel. Driving through town or city centres during rush hour can be a nightmare and parking is always restricted in city centres usually in very tight underground carparks.
This hotel is excellent in that it gives you free parking, is just off route and no charge for the dog. Hotel Montermoso in Aranda del Duero.
This hotel is great if you are driving back up to the UK and need somewhere close to the tunnel to stay overnight. Hostellerie de la Quenoeuille Marquise, France.
If you book using booking.com you can use this link below which will give you and me a £15 bonus. https://www.booking.com/s/34_6/801ebba9 (anyone can use this link)
