Warning: Precessionary Caterpillars. El Recorral

Warning: Precessionary Caterpillars. El Recorral

18/02/2020 Warning, whilst walking on the path on the main road up by the recorral there was a line of processionary caterpillars although they were not near any pine trees. Just a warning to be very careful as my dog and I walked right by them without realizing it in advance. Would Rojales town hall do anything if I notify them?

Nothing the Ayuntamiento can do at this stage. The point is, you don't necessarily know where they might have processed in the last 24 hours, could be anywhere. Also the spores can be spread around in the wind. I keep my dog on a lead and take a bottle of water with me, so if my dog starts foaming at the mouth or nose I can swish out her mouth & nose in case of a problem. I would then get her straight to a vet where they will do the same and give an injection. They will then keep the dog for a couple of hours to check they are okay. Not pleasant, but soon over if you do these things immediately.
Mostly dogs ignore them anyway. I have been walking dogs in El Recorral for 15 years without incident.

Hi, I did assume it won’t be of any benefit telling the town hall. I do the same with my dog and thankfully she was on her lead too. I rang the vets once home and thankfully there was no need to take her as we’d not come into contact with them and she had ignored them. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't make that assumption.

I reported nests in the pine trees on La Marquessa golf course opposite the petrol station, when I was over just before Christmas to the Town Hall. The complaint was taken seriously. I had to make it in writing (in Spanish). The staff in the Town Hall were very helpful. I haven't a word of Spanish, but they did all the writing for me. They said that the nests would be dealt with and gave me a receipt indicating that they had been notified of the problem.

I was going home the next day so I've no idea if the nests was dealt with, but I'll assume they were.
