I'm finding all this info very useful as we are hoping to come out in the Autumn but haven't found anywhere to rent yet but have made lots of enquiries with Agents etc. we do have a dog so not so easy for us to find somewhere. We also have relatives in Quesada who are helping us. Diane

I will see next week when I get there but I am so excited that this dream is going to b reality. I have read the post about cockroaches and am a bit scared. I also saw a post where a snake was in simebodys house

Hi,
It is mostly uphill, once out of the Dona Pepa area - We don't do the walk to the Country Club that often as it takes around 45 minutes to walk there from us (we are near the Consum supermarket area). We have also walked it from the Coopers bar area and that takes about 30 minutes. I wouldn't do the walk in the mid-summer heat during the day, as it is uphill, but in the evenings it is not too bad.

I must say though that our neighbours think we are a bit potty because we enjoy walking everywhere. We only get a hire car occasionally in Summer for the beach and for when our family come over so we can take them out and about in comfort, but it's amazing what you can do on the buses, with a lot of time, patience and planning......patience being the main thing!

Don't worry about Cockroaches as they can be kept out of the house with sprays etc and even the mosquito netting can help keep them out.
As you will have read in the previous posts on them you may get the odd one or two, as they are part of life in warm countries like Spain, but with a bit of thought and care you shouldn't have much trouble with them. They are more prevalent in the Summer heat but they don't seem to be around so much the rest of the year luckily.

Hi,
I'm not sure about using a mates address to open an account but to open an account in Spain they would always need your passport and an NIE number and possibly a proof of address in Spain.

For NIE, you need two passport photos per application, original passport plus a photocopy and, if doing it yourself, an application form (unsigned until in the presence of an official) and two photocopies. The form is called the Solicitud de Número de Identidad de Extranjero (NIE) - Also, possibly proof of address in Spain.

We obtained our NIE's from the UK Spanish Embassy in London. If you have time and are near to one of the Embassies, it's quite an easy process but after going to the embassy and filling in the form with an official, there is a bit of waiting time for the NIE's to be issued. It depends on how long you have before you need the NIE.

Hope this helps,

Jan
