There are variables such as age (over/under 75) but if you are a pensioner then broadly speaking tax will kick in at roughly €13k.

It's wrong to single out pensions from the equation, they are classed as earned income in Spain and taxed in just the same way as other income such as interest etc.

Tax returns can be by individual or couple and you can choose whichever is most advantageous to you but you will get no allowance for your wife having nil income.
