Thanks for the replies, I have followed up via phone and email with the British Consulate, Spain Health Authorities and the National Police, visiting National Police in Orihuela, Foreign Dept.
This is what I have been told by the National Police, keep my emails as evidence, as we will only go over by a few days and because its Covid and we have the postive test results it wont be an issue, we can also mention we visited them

The officer explained how it works, they only count your days coming in to Spain, so if you are on 80 days coming in, then they will stop you and the next time we come to Spain we need to make sure 90 days has elapsed .

I will post an update when we leave Spain with any issues etc

How interesting . I’m relieved that you have managed to sort things out. Such a relief fir you both. How are you yourself? Still negative?
What a carry on this Covid pandemic has been for all of us in so many different ways! Hopefully, you will both get home safe and sound.
Best wishes. Rosemary.

That's interesting, does this mean that if you overstay by a significant amount (3 months extra) nothing will happen when you leave and you'll be OK on your return as long as you have a 90 days gap?...Asking for a friend

TBH Checking dates on entry only does make more sense, especially when the border control are busy. It's far easier to check the last date rather than calculate the total days stay in the rolling 180 days.

So back in the UK now, travelled back on day 95 and no questions asked. I had all my proof of my wife having covid but it was straight through.

When we return later in the year, in approx 120 days will post again.
