90 days and Covid

90 days and Covid

Postby wilsonm10 » Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:03 am

Hi

Just a thought as my wife has a cold and we are about to do a Covid test, we are due to fly back to the UK next week as our 90 days will be up, if she tests positive for Covid does anyone know how the 90 days work and who do you inform about having to overstay? I have read up and if positive you have to isolate fore 10 days before flying (and re-test negative)ich would mean exceeding the 90 days

Thanks

Self isolation was reduced to 7 days at the beginning of January.

EU ruling is that this comes under force majeure and you need to inform the National Police who will issue an extension waiver to cover the period of isolation.

If its just a cold, then she won't record a positive on a covid test.

There's no national police station in Rojales. I would think the nearest would be Torrevieja or Elche. It can be done by phone if you look it up. I think the 091 number for the National Police is for emergencies only.

Torrevieja and Elche both have foreigners' departments as does Orihuela.

So just an update my wifes covid test was positive, so I have emailed the National Police to try and resolve the 90 day issue, just re-booked the flights back to UK and we will be on day 94 when the isolation period ends and we fly back.
Does anyone have the actual telephone number for Orihuela National Police as I have read we need to take passport photos and an application form and apply in person, which goes against the isolation. Assuming this can be done over the phone or do I need to go in (as Covid negative)

Thanks again

Sorry, don't know the procedure as I don't know anyone that's done it. I do know you have to go in person to request and extension for a visa but seems silly to go in person if you are isolating.

Phone number at Orihuela is 965 300 082. Perhaps ring the Valencian Health authorities on 900 300 555 and ask their advice.

Please tell us how all this worked out. We too are over here on a 90 days basis and wondered how - in a practical sense - we'd sort out "overstaying" if we caught Covid.

Have you considered that you too are very likely to test positive now that your wife has Covid? The ruling us 7 days as long as your test is negative. Surely you wouldn’t be expected to travel so soon after having the virus. Some people test positive within 7 to 10 days but are still feeling exhausted and low. If this happens to either of you, you’d be well advised to rest in bed until you feel better. The 90 day ruling if implemented under covid circumstances would be a disgrace. I can’t see anyone being fined if they can prove that they have had Covid19. Make sure you report it .
I hope you avoid infection and I hope your wife isn’t too poorly. It’s another worry that you don’t need. All will be well but look at the irony of it. You strictly adhere to the 90 day rule and then Covid19 decides to step in and upset the apple cart! You couldn’t write it.

Also ask for advice from the British Consulate, that's what they are there for. 965 216 022 - 24 hour helpline (supposedly).
I'm sure they'd be able to help more than those of us who haven't gone through it.

I doubt if any sanctions would be imposed on leaving Spain a week late if you have proof of covid (or any other medical) reasons.
