A word of warning

A word of warning

Postby SharonSpain » Mon Jun 27, 2022 9:22 am

I recently changed my gas/electric provider from Naturgy to Iberdrola.
If you are considering this and have a maintenance contract, for goodness sake cancel this BEFORE you change. I've just been done for the remaining 10 months on mine!!
Also have an ongoing battle for the overcharge on gas used.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience Sharon.

I have been on the night tariff with Iberdrola for some years now, and I have looked at other suppliers from time to time. But I have never thought the saving, if any, was worth the hassle of changing or the risk of not really knowing the efficacy of the other supplier.

I think in due time you will be happy you changed.

Agree with David, we wouldn’t change ours either (Iberdrola), we are happy with service and bills we receive. We are also on night tariff.

I'm sorry to hear what u are going through. I know how u feel. My electricity was with Fenía Energia and their prices trippled over the night without letting me know in advance. I complained to "the Consumer office" in Rojales Townhall & they admitted they had a computer glitch & that is why I wasn't informed. They corrected all the invoices but one! Which I am fighting for it. Since I have said I want to complain they have gone quiet!! Definately go to Rojales Townhall & make a complain. All the best...

if you take out a contract for whatever reason it is for a given period of time. Eg a contract for a years maintenance, after 6 months you cancel but you still owe 6 months on your agreed contract. Many forget this when signing contracts and wanting to cancel.

You predicament is because most contracts require a minimum of one months notice to cancel or discontinue.

Simply switching provider does not cancel it.

Unfortunately the fault falls squarely on you for not appreciating that.

That is the true "word of caution".

Slightly harsh as Sharon was just trying to warn people who may not know.
Like car insurance or house insurance, if you've taken it out then you have to pay for the year.
The one month's notice to cancel is before the contract expires, you can't give a month's notice half way through the contract.

Thanks for your comment Marcliff. It was, as you said, to warn others who may not be as "on the ball" as people like Darro, who is obviously absolutely perfect!
