Assessors

Hello. We had the assessors out and only half the damage is covered, the swimming pool which is thick with mud is not covered !!! We will fight this when we get his offer in a few weeks time. The river burst and we were under nearly 2m of water. He even couldn’t be bothered to measure with his digital measurer our garden boundary wall with needs redecorating - he just said ‘too big’ not our problem we have a 1500 sq m boundary wall. The list is endless what they will not pay out for.
The Town Hall still has not sent any money (as far as we know) to victims in Catral, seems again the 1500-4500e has been reduced to 1500e for everyone again regardless of what your main priorities are. Where is the rest of the Catral money going ??

Would be interesting to know if anyone has received any emergency money.

No neither have we it's getting to be a joke,what bit of emergency grant are we mis-understanding!!

I sympathise with anyone who has suffered damaged from the natural disaster but i think that a muddy swimming pool and a boundary wall that needs decorating is not top of their priority list there is people around whose homes have to be demolished some who have lost everything ,livelihood and there homes, some who are probably to old to see them rebuilt i think you are lucky in comparison .

You are being a bit judgemental there william, the original poster has said that they were under 2 metres of water so i imagine that they had much more damage than the pool and the wall

No amount of money can make up for seeing your treasured home and belongings submerged in contaminated water and having to heap everything in the street to be hauled away to be destroyed.

My classic car was under 2.5 metres of water in Catral. Seen the assessor - he tells me book price for my 25k classic is about 5k, though he'll push for 10-15k?

I appreciate a classic car is completely unimportant when taken into context of people's houses damaged - but I still paid insurance for 10 years, along with my blood, sweat, tears and a load of money - to be offered potentially under 20% of the real value.

Gotta love insurance companies, when you really, really need it - stitched up. The icing on the cake 'told months to a year or so' for payout. 'Natural disaster'.

Except it was not a 'natural disaster', as Almoradi town hall deliberately diverted the water to stop Almoradi being more flooded, thus causing this issue for surrounding areas. Technically, based on that, there is a legal argument to sue the town hall if people are much out of pocket. However, trying to sue a potless town hall in Spain and get to the bottom of those responsible (which is under investigation), will take forever....

People must rightly feel very betrayed by what is going on with the non payment of the "emergency" payout. A month later and nothing. The politicians and councillors were very quick to appear in the press boasting about getting this so called emergency payout for victims of the floods. It is very strange that not one of them has been in the press denouncing the slow pace of actually getting the money to the people concerned. Their silence is deafning. It really is immoral.
On the question of assessors. Can you not employ your own independent assessor in Spain? It would be the norm in Ireland to have your own independent assessor who would liaise with your insurance company when dealing with large claims like people have now. Most people would not have the expertise to deal with claims of this size and paying someone to fight your corner, especially someone who knows how the system works, is well worth their fee.

Thank you Frenchie for your response to Williams comments, yes we have lost a lot of furniture damage internally and externally. I do appreciate that whatever anyone has lost it’s important that we all are not out of pocket to a certain degree and not gain either. To such an extent we obtained 2 quotes for all the large jobs and handed both in, I personally feel that a lot of companies were overcharging. All we can do now and wait.
I also found the comment by Bee and Paul interesting, didn’t know about the diversion of the flow to bypass Almoradi. This is when we had to be evacuated as our few villas are surrounded by farm land on all sides, typical though one neighbour decided to stay and a boat had to be sent out to save them.
I’ve constantly asked the Costa Blanca News to keep us all in the news as no funding has been given to anyone as far as I know.

The assessor who visited us (coincidentally, a chemical engineer) said we weren't covered for "cleaning water", so we can't claim for chemicals, but we are covered for loss of water and our time for cleaning, so we emptied our pool, cleaned and refilled it. I don't know what figure she put down for this (we won't know the cost of the water refill until our next bill), but she certainly added it to the list.

Regarding the emergency fund from the Valencian Government, I've read so many reports on various fora of people in Catral, in particular, who aren't getting emergency fund payouts, it occurred to me why don't you all get together and visit Catral Ayuntamiento en masse to demand answers?
