Bank Account and debit card

Bank Account and debit card

Postby wilsonm10 » Mon Jul 26, 2021 12:08 pm

Hi

Is it normal that you can only collect your debit card from the Santander branch you opened the account at.

I was hoping to collect my debit card at the local branch, as the branch I opened the account at is 2 hours drive away but it seems they are not willing or can do this as we live in the UK

Any advice, I am looking at driving the 2 hours but it is something I thought they would have been able to do.

Thanks

Do what we & numerous others on here have done, open a wise account, transfer your d/debits,then dump the Spanish bank, they are all hopeless at customer service. There are numerous posts on here about it if you search for them. Good luck.

I don't know about Santander but La Caixa will deliver new credit/debit cards to a branch you nominate. My account is in Catalunya but I am now in Murcia - never had a problem. I'd hazard a guess that most banks will go the same. You'll need the address and branch number of the branch you opt for. Good luck

I've been with three banks here (well, half a dozen if you count name changes), Bankinter, Cam, Bancaja (changed to Bankia and now Caixa) and each of them have posted my debit card to me.

I see from other threads that someone mentioned a bank where you have to collect it but mine have always been posted to me.

I’m with Santander, and I discovered a couple of years back, that the only branch that deals with my queries in full, is the branch I opened the account at. Unlike U.K., where the bank will sort you out no matter which branch I go in.

So, I had to request at a local Santander branch to have my account switched over. And this was the same as switching banks in the U.K. forms to complete and sign. Then they sort it out. I agree it’s a strange concept, thinking that being a customer in one branch of a chain is enough to be a customer at any other branch. Apparently in Spain, it’s not. Good luck in getting it sorted.

If you go into your local branch they should be able to switch your account to them.

we had to do this, went into convenient local branch of BBVA they ‘switched’ us from town where we originally opened the account. No hassle.
