Bank account closures

I queried this recently with Barclays and was told that I will have to close my accounts (no UK address) over coming months but they will be dealing with Italy (ex pats) first.

Looks like UK Banks are about to lose a helluva lot of business.

Barclays have no plans to close bank accounts of clients that live in Spain, apart from Barclaycard accounts for which you will have to provide a UK address

I called into Barclays earlier, to change address. I had to use my mums address for correspondence in the UK. Couldn't use my Spanish address. Then popped into the Halifax, had no problem there with using a Spanish address.

Well see attached letter that was sent to me from Barclays, nowhere on it does it say "Spain has no plans to close Bank Accounts of people living in Spain" jpeg, and they know I'm living in Spain, so surely they would have mentioned it.

Dangerous comment to make without evidence, where are you getting your information from ? I would be interested to know

I believe the situation posted by jpeg was the situation a couple of weeks ago. There was quite a lot of media coverage and the Martin Lewis web site.....moneysavingexpert.com.....provided a detailed breakdown by bank. I haven't checked the web site to see if there is an update

It would seem things may have changed.

Received from Barclays yesterday regarding their Terms & Conditions, applicable April 2021

Closing your account: We've updated section 5 of 'Being with Barclays' ('Stopping your service or account') to explain that we can close your account if you (or someone you hold an account with) are resident outside the UK. -->

That only states "we can close your account" not we are going to

No but they CAN, Your take on it jpeg "not we are going to" sounds a tad threatening for anyone to use least of all a banking service.

They have also removed everything pertaining to the EU in their Terms & Conditions.

You seem absolutely convinced that this is not going to happen, have you got inside information??.
