Please does anyone know of a bee keeper as we have a huge swarm of bees in our garden?

Thank you that is a good shout. However, I wouldn't want them destroyed. I was hoping that a bee keeper might come and relocate them in their hives.

They will just be resting and will be off when they are ready to resume their journey

Thanks I had wondered about that too. They are precariously attached to a thin branch on a bottlebrush shrub. I hope they depart soon and find a more secure home.

The local police or Town Hall will have details of a local beekeeper to collect them as they are protected

Problem solved! Went down to the town hall who were BRILLIANT. Somebody arrived at my house the same time as us and the bees had GONE on their own!!! A bit embarrassing but as they said - no pasa nada!

This is all normal behaviour. A hive of bees will split into two and “swarm” when a new queen is produced and she will leave with half of the worker bees. They will find a temporary place to wait for a couple of days while scouts go out looking for a new home and as soon as one is found, they all leave as happened with your swarm. Bees are less dangerous and less likely to sting you while swarming but obviously it is still sensible to avoid going too close to them unless you are in protective gear. In the U.K. the local bee keeping association could be contacted who would happily collect a swarm, partly as a public service but partly as it gives them a new Queen and swarm to start a new hive. Collected many this way and driven back with cardboard boxes full of 20,000 to 30,000 or so bees !
