Bereavement meetings or similar get togethers

Bereavement meetings or similar get togethers

Postby Wansbeck » Sun Jan 19, 2020 5:30 pm

How do we get involved in bereavement get togethers....visited the one in La Laguna Hotel but didn't know what the routine was or who to speak to!
My husband died in December and I have felt quite isolated since then....are there any coffee mornings or activities locally?

If you're on Facebook join their page and you'll see events that are coming up and where they are etc. You can also become a member by paying a small amount and with that comes benefits. As I say join or check out their page.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My husband died in May and I still miss him constantly. I find it's the little things such as not having someone to answer the phone or door if I'm busy or make me a cup of tea if I'm tired or unwell or just help out with the daily routine. Anything that needs doing from changing a light bulb to taking the rubbish to the bin, I have to do it. And of course, having too much time with your own thoughts.

I'm lucky here in that I have wonderful neighbours. They'll drop in every now and then to see how I am and stay for a cup of tea and a chat, I go out every Friday for "ladies lunch" and belong to a slimming club which I go to every Tuesday morning.

I see from your profile you've been on here since 2013 and live in the Torrettas, do you have friendly neighbours? If so, ask them round for a cup of tea or glass of wine and ask if they can pop by every now and then. Join in any local pub events such as quizzes or go out for menu del dia at somewhere you fancy, anything that gets you out of the house and mixing with people. It's hard at first to do it on your own but persevere and you will find other people in the same situation.

Thank you TonTri....I have never been in a situation like this and I cannot believe it has happened. Sorry to hear you have been through it too. My husband just didn't wake up one morning.....what a surprise!! We were close and married for 23 years and I just feel really strange on my own. My neighbours are backwards and forwards to Madrid and the UK for months at a time and other friends have been good, but it doesn't take the problems away. I have decided that I might as well go to a meeting for Age Concern to see what I can get involved in. Hope you stay strong!!

There is a bereavement group at Hotel Fontana just off the Lemon Tree Road, not sure what day they meet but think it is around 1pm. Have heard good reports about this group. Sorry for your loss, good luck, keep trying that is the main thing.

Yes sorry for your loss both of you, maybe if it's possible that the two of you can meet up for a chinwag and help and support each other. Stay strong it does and will slowly get better and yes I do speak through experience
