Break-in question

Break-in question

Postby foxystoat » Sun Oct 14, 2018 2:53 pm

Hey guys.

Had a break in last night at our place (near Los Montesinos) Not an opportunist theft, they forced the grills from the walls, jemmied the windows and clearly knew what they were doing. Despite all this and throwing all our clothes out of the wardrobes and the mess involved, there was nothing taken as we don't keep valuables in the property.

The police would not leave a crime reference number and seemed uninterested. Can anyone speak from experience if this is going to affect our insurance claim for the damage or what we should do? Still waiting for a representative from our insurance company to contact me but trying to second guess what they're likely to ask.

Thanks

Very sorry to hear that, something I dread happening. I would have thought the insurance would want a crime reference number to process any claim? Hopefully you can sort it out tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your break in. You usually have to go in Person to the Police Station or Guardia and report it. They take details and give you a reference number for the Insurance Company. Don't know what Police Station you come under where you live.

Sorry to hear your story. You will have to go and make a Denuncea to get a crime number for your Insurance company.

Thanks for your kind words guys.

Denuncia - can a member of my family not resident at my address go along and report the crime on my behalf or would it have to be myself? I've got a geographical issue or two meaning I may not be able to report locally immediately.

Thank you.

Had similar break in about 6 years ago
Take photos of breakin damage to present to insurers
Report incident to Guardia at nearest station.
Like Policia Local, they won’t be particularly interested, but will go through the motions and eventually issue s crime number.
You may need an interpreter if you don’t haveSpanish.
This kind of experience strips your confidence and feelings of security, but it does pass eventually

Unless things have changed, you need to go to the nearest Guardian Civil station and report it there.

Take an interpreter if you don’t speak Spanish
