British Banks

Anyone know what they will be doing about their British Bank accounts . For personal reasons I have always maintained my British Halifax bank. Now I read that they will be freezing/closing their expat banks accounts after the dreaded Brexit.
an I ask what anyone is doing out there be kind I have had genuine reasons for maintaining mine

We have a UK address, if you have that will be OK. If not change to a UK address if you can, sometimes it can be difficult but see.

I asked Barclays Bank and they said everyone will receive notification that their bank will be closing. My husband has a council pension and they say it has to be paid into a English bank The lady at the bank said if you have a good friend you trust then ask them if you can use their address. The nationwide where we also have a small account say they will still let you bank there even though we are registered abroad.

From Barclays today
As per the most recent updates, we are only closing the accounts for our Barclaycard customers (Credit card). We will keep customers notified for any information regarding the closure of their personal accounts or other products.
If a customer has an address outside the UK, but within the European Economic Area (EEA), they may face changes to their banking and investment products and services in the future. Please check the site regularly as will update it with information

We contacted Halifax and Santander in UK, and they have no plans to change. We have read that if your bank is intending to close your account, you will have received a letter from them. If you have not received a letter, then you should be OK.

Its should read this way .
AFTER THE 31/12/2020 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN A UK BANK .IF YOU ARE living in a EU country.
You will not be able to open /have a UK credit card .....
If you have an account today it will not change.

I had an email from TSB yesterday ( I currently have an account with them under a UK address) offering a UK bank account if I was a non UK European resident and didnt have another bank account in the UK.

I concur, what you have previously read is not correct. Our Smile bank in the uk have said it has absolutely no plans to close any non uk resident accounts or cancel any cards. It was reported in a UK paper and has caused a lot of consternation amont UK expats but it was shall we say embellished as it came from Barclaycard who are only amending their Credit Card arrangements due to costs. A blanket closure of accounts then became a media false news frenzy.
