I would also like to know if you can just shove a big shed up against a shared wall? Do you need a distance and permission....hope someone can answer this.

I think I’m right in saying a shed is considered a temporary structure and as such doesn’t need the same permission. Check with your town hall

On our community we ask owners to consult and consider there neighbor before putting any structure up even temporary although still up to person doing the work. As previous post temporary structure do not need permission.

What if it's on a concrete base?

Ron, you've said that you need permission to make internal alterations, do you have to get community permission for taking down a half wall that holds the breakfast bar between the kitchen and living room and replacing it with cupboards? It doesn't alter anything visually just gives more storage space.

It probably varies depending on the community rules. On our community the properties surround the shared pools and we are not allowed to have sheds or storage boxes that project above the garden walls......and I don't think we are allowed to raise the height of the walls facing the pools. Other communities may be different.

Toni Tri I’d think not. What I was referring to is that you do need council permission for internal (as well as external) alterations to the property where the cost exceeds a certain amount.
In your case I doubt you’d need community permission but beware the wall you’re taking down is not load bearing

Thanks for the quick reply Ron. No it's not load bearing as it only holds up the breakfast bar worktop.

The plan for building work if in a similar style that you require can be refused by tbe community, reason !! if you near neighbours do not agree to this, if the neighbours or a single neighbour disagrees your community will never grant permission and this you need in order to get your license from the town hall.

What about bushes planted right up to an adjoining wall, growing over with thick trunks making it impossible to make the wall higher?

William....I'm not sure about your comment as our president refuses to give any permission for anything and only turns up once a year for the urb. meeting. However, people have had permission from the townhall.
