You must be a resident in order to get credit facilities. We do not live in Spain so we’re not eligible for it.
To be honest, I would tell the salesman that I did not require any finance and would expect him to respect my wishes.
The Renault/ Dacia garage in a Elche was excellent. We dealt with a lovely spanish man called a Francisco who was very professional and spoke enough English for our needs.

It's nothing whatsoever to do with being resident or not.
If you wave money under a car dealers nose of course they will take it, they'd rather you took a credit deal as they make more money out of it but they are not going to let you walk away because you refuse to.
And just for the record beit new or secondhand you do NOT need to be on your padron to buy a car from a dealer, you only need proof of address for registration purposes but that can be a utility bill.
Be prepared to walk away from any dealer who tries to insist otherwise.

If you want to use the credit facilities, you must be a resident.
Yes, anyone can buy a car but it has to be paid for. Many people use finance and pay it off over a period of years. I was simply saying that as a non resident of Spain,we were ineligible to avail of this.
If you think about it...why would they allow us to borrow money to pay for the car when we do not live or work in the country....ie no salary or pension being paid in on a regular basis to guarantee the monthly payments? They would be foolish in my humble option.
