Buying and driving a Uk registered car back to the UK

The rules don’t apply to rental cars... it’s car ownership that’s the issue

It’s a fact that you cannot drive a UK reg car in Spain if you hold a Spanish driving licence. Likewise, you cannot drive a Spanish, French, Italian car in the UK on a UK driving licence.

The theory being that if this was allowed, the UK roads would be full of cars registered in various European countries, all with differing MOT requirements , regulations and standards. Spain, France etc; would also be faced with the same issue.

So you not been back to the uk lately ...

Poles, Latvians , Romanians Lithuanians every where [ check out lhd cars for sale in the UK ..LOADS OF THEM ..!!!] i know of a Dutch Vw bug [ owned by a guy on an industrial unit i used to rent ] that has been in continous use in the UK for the last 15years ,i know it has reported several times but nobody cares ...!!!!

I’m not saying it’s not happening, I also see hundreds of UK reg cars driving around in Spain and foreign reg cars driving in the UK. The question was about the ‘legality’ of driving the Spanish reg car in the UK.
Plenty of people are prepared to ‘chance it’ but the fact remains, it’s not legal.
