Car purchase

Car purchase

Postby niallnas » Thu Jan 16, 2020 12:36 pm

Hi
Sorry another question.
Had a property here for 10+ years and In all that time have rented a car at the airport. Have just found out that I can park a car at one of the airport rental company lots for €300 a year including being transferred to and from the airport. I need a 7 seater vehicle, am I better to buy here or bring one over from the UK and if so how easy or complicated is that. Cars look very expensive here, Is there a best place to look to buy.

Thanks I’m advance.

Just a heads up but might be worth emailing Seguro about their car sharing scheme. I was put onto it by Sage on here and have been happy so far - somewhere between hiring and owning as you get the meet and greet/drop off service as Seguro run for their parking business but just use a Seguro owned car at a pre-agreed rate. Also means you can chop and change between a 4/5/7 seat. I had a 7 seat Espcae last week from them and have a 4 seat Fiesta for next week as an example.

Just a thought if you aren't here all year around. When I looked at the costs even with the outside non-covered parking it was €300 - €350, then road tax, insurance, ITV and soon at €1k before you start. That would cover 2.5 months hire of the 7 seat or over 100 days per year of the 4 seat.

Just a thought..

Thanks for that detailed reply. My business partner also uses and our families etc so we would have quite a bit of use but I’ll have a look at that. A seven seater in the summer is costing me £€750-€850!for two weeks and my business partner the same.

Just to add to the post from PGA......Seguro may well offer to buy your car from you for their car sharing pool.....if you are interested it may be worth asking them. It will save you the work of selling yours which can be a real pain if you are not here full time. They made me a good offer for my car which saved me the hassle.

Don't laugh....... I'm arriving at Alicante next in Feb and from the details they've sent me, although I can't be certain yet, it does look very much like I will be allocated my old car.

The great news is that I already have a few thousand extra Euros in the bank from its sale and much lower usage costs going forward.

It's a new system, it's early days but the outlook looks very promissing

On the contract documents I get sent it gives the registration number as well as the car, so you can probably see if it is your old car.

I too have signegd up with Seguro for the 30 day hire for a year. It is working out at €675 for 5 person car €425 plus €250. The €250 is to cover any expenses incurred like parking tickets or refuelling if you don't refuel when leaving it back. Its refundable if not used. The Insurance has €200 excess. You pay the price of the contract up front. You can put as many drivers as you like on the contract not just your own family. I have in-laws etc. The contract will be in your name only with the others added on as additional drivers. One of my drivers is 77 and that wasn't a problem. I will see how it goes.
