Car Seats

Car Seats

Postby Paul Jackson » Thu Jun 14, 2018 5:31 pm

Hi
We are over in September and hiring a car.
The hire company(Open Car) say that although their cars
have ISOFIX the seats they use don’t . In the UK this is illegal.
Can someone tell me what the law is in Spain please?
Thanks
Paul

As both Spain and UK use the same EU regulations for child car seats and fittings then I would assume they were the same.
However, in neither country is it "illegal" not to use car seats with Isofix fittings but both recommend it.
It is a legal requirement to have at least diagonal seat belts and not lap belts for a restraint.
Only the new i_Size child seats (for the younger children) need to use Isofix restraints and these are only available in Size 1. Non-i-Size seats can still use diagonal restraints.

If coming by plane, bring your own child seat with you. Airlines allow them on for free and she can use it on the plane. It will also save a fortune on the hire of one whilst you're here.

if you haven't yet booked your car, try Lara cars, child seats included in price. They should also be able to answer any of your queries.

Much easier and cheaper to bring your own but from experience you need to get to the airport earlier as sometimes the large baggage machine gets stuck
