Cats in danger of being killed

Cats in danger of being killed

Postby Terry the gardener » Sat Sep 19, 2020 11:01 am

I have had this sent to me from a friend in formentera...

{Doesn't sound like she's falling over herself to take her ... If we think Formentera's got it bad for cats, you should see Quesada. Apparently there's a Swiss lady who has returned to Switzerland, having been an approved feeder of either several or one large colony. They thought she'd been managing it, dealing with sterilisations etc, but after she went back they found out that only a small number of the cats had been trapped and sterilised and the colony had grown quite a bit - about 40 cats. Also, near the golf course, they've just built a refuge out of wooden pallets and they don't know how many cats there are in that area - they think maybe 50. I know Rojales is about 4 times the size of Formentera but I think there are more than 4 times the number of cats that need sorting out Unfortunately the townhall have now got the ump with it all and the risk is ... no-one has said it yet ... that Cereco or the like may be called in to decrease the number of cats}

Please try and keep your cats / dogs in because this company dont care if they have collers on or check for micro chip or bother if they are friendy or not ..

Two years ago this Swiss lady appeared in our street and started feeding stray cats. I had a word with her because we did not have any strays, only a couple of pets. Within 2 months we had a colony and 11 new kittens were born, 5 of them in a neighbour's underbuild. I then removed all the plastic containers which were now littering the area to which she took offence. The whole thing escalated from there involving the Police on several occasions and the Ayuntamiento, who registered my complaint but did nothing. She only lives 2 streets away where there is a large planted up area where she could attend to her cats but no, there are no cats there. She makes sure the cats are elsewhere and I know of three other sites she attends. She does this under the guise of caring for the cats and has approval from an official organisation in Guardamar but she does nothing other than feed them. She disappeared about 2 weeks ago, I've heard she's back in Switzerland, and the cats have now been abandoned and she's left two new kittens.

Poor creatures. They don’t ask for or deserve this. It’s very sad.

Its awful. Can the locals all get together and help, in a one off situation. If they can trap, neuter and return, problem solved. we all need to help both people and animals, especially in such difficult times. Thank you in advance for those of you who take the time and care

From the town hall:-

If you are a person who feeds cats in this municipality, we help you to have the official card of cat feeder, we also help you to sterilize the cats of your street and your neighborhood.
The more people we are, the better served they will be, these little cats, who are treated so unfairly.
Take the step, and join the CES of Rojales.

Yes, this is what should happen ... but my warning is about this company paid to round up as may cats as possible not caring if they are cats owned by people...the more they catch the more they are paid.then they take them to wearhouse and were they are in held appalling conditions...and if no one come to find their animals within a sort time they a killed ..
This is not a shelter this to me is a killing station...and this also applies to dogs ......

Two opinions. Which one is right?

I can't find an address of CES, nor a website, nor any official information of the town hall.
And I do not use Facebook or Whatsapp.

THIS would be information that could help me to find out what is right or wrong here.
The few lines of partial information are of very little use to the reader here.

Terry means that CES de Rojales help the cats and are a charity which is supported by the Town Hall.
Martin has enclosed the link.

The company called CERECO from Murcia round up cats and dogs and are killed if not claimed.

CES use facebook as their main website:

And recent posts show new shelters that have been created by the town hall for feral cats:

This poster was put up just 5 days ago on completion of building another new shelter:

The council's ethos is to catch the cats, sterilise them and then provide good shelter for them.
A number of the councillors are passionate about the cats protection, including Inma the cultural secretary who often helps on an occasional charity stall provided by the council in the Thursday market.
I guess the reason they don't put too much info out regarding location etc., is for the cat's protection, but you can always contact them via the town hall.
