Phil, my name is Phil also and I had mine registered in April this year. first you will require all your UK documents to prove ownership V5, insurance, taxed in UK. you will also need a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer to prove the bike was made to EU specification. You will then need to get the first ITV for a foreign machine which is 80 or 90 Euro. they go through the bike with a fine tooth comb. if you have any aftermarket parts on the bike, exhausts, indicators etc they will not comply with the certificate of conformity which I found out to my cost, mine failed twice and the fee is chargeable for each ITV test. All tyres need to be the same size as the manufacturers state from new and everything needs to be E stamped.
The Spanish forms need to be completed then and taken to Traffico for authorisation, this can be done by a company on your behalf, There is one in Los Montesenos who do this service or there is a bike shop in Almoradi that helped with mine, you will also need your passport, NIE and a Padron from the local town Hall that is valid in the last 3 months.
The cost if everything goes smoothly should be around 700 Euro, if you need to change parts and extra tests like me considerably more! few things to consider, I registered a ZZr1200 and this is not a common bike in Spain, some insurance companies would not cover it, it ended up costing me nearly 700 Euro to insure. then I am informed because the bike is an import the value the insurance would pay out would be very low! I really enjoy riding the bike but with the registration, new parts and insurance coming around £2K I would give some serious consideration before I attempted doing it again. Hope this helps.

Good post, Phil.
I paid £350 to transport my Yamaha XV1700 over from the UK, only to disover that, because I'd imported it when new from the USA, it couldn't be re-registered at all in Spain. In the meantime, I'd also had an insurance quote of over Eu 600, so in the end, I had to sell it. If I'd checked this out beforehand, I would have saved myself the transportation costs and probably got a better sale price in the UK. C'est la vie!

I have a 2014 125 Rieju [ Spanish made ] on uk plates , bought it over from UK as needed a few parts which are considerably cheaper here, got it sorted and then found out it was going to cost 700/800 e to transfer ..!!
Took it back to UK in march and had it moted , now back here but will be returning it to the uk again when I go back with my van ..!

Phil
Previous to bringing the ZZR over I had a 1980 CB750 here which I had lovingly rebuilt, however it was too old to make it commercially viable to register, I was told that unless the bike has type approval, which is on the left hand side of the log book it would be very expensive to obtain the documentation around 1200 euro just for this. if the bike is a Japanese import I very much doubt everything will have the E mark, which is the European type approval stamp, same situation Paulr had with the US import. I bought a headlight from the states for the right side kickup and that was one of the ITV failures. worth getting all the information before starting the process as it gets expensive otherwise, you would get a better price for the bike back in the UK if you sold it, the police have been having a clamp down on foreign plate bikes hence mine being registered, I have heard of one guy having his bike impounded and fined 2000 euro for having it in Spain over six months (the insurance generally only covers 90 days) he then got the bike back and was given seven days to get it out of the country.

I have a BMW F800 on british plates. I am insured with Liberty Insurance that covers me for 12 months in Spain. I tax the m/c on line & take it back to Uk for its MOT. OK I know officially I can only keep the bike in Spain for 6 months. Uk insurance will only cover me for 90 days & thats not long enough.
