CUENCA bus trip.

Postby Mac3blade » Thu Oct 18, 2018 10:04 am

just back last night from a 3 day trip to the La Mancha area of Spain. Could not even start to tell you how fantastic it was. The scenery in the Cuenca area is outstanding and has to be seen to be appreciated.
We departed Torrevieja area early on Monday morning and picked up people from all the Ursula areas right up to Gran Alicant. Lovely coach and superb guide called Catherine who informed us of all the interesting historical places we placed and knew so much about the towns and villages that we passed through. We had 2 stops on route which gave everyone an opportunity to visit the loo and enjoy a coffee. Arrived at our hotel approx. 1.30pm. Catherine was the slickest coach guide ! As she had a list of all people travelling, the husbands collected the luggage and she handed out our room keys. Everyone was able to go to their room, unpack and be down on time for lunch at 2 pm. The package included full board with wine / water. Lunch was served in a beautiful, airy dining room. Most of the tables seated 8 so in fact everyone used the same table for all meals giving us the opportunity to become friends. By the end of the trip, we knew everyone!
After lunch, Catherine took us on a tour of the little town where our hotel was located..Canete and it was great fun. Thankfully, most people had chosen to wear solid shoes as the terrain required it. Back to the hotel by 5.30pm and many of us sat outside in the gorgeous surroundings enjoying ancoffee or a beer. Dinner was served at 9pm and afterwards the music started and the dancing began...I should add that there was another party of spanish staying as well. Great fun, everyone minded and tried out the spanish dancing.
Next morning, after a delightful breakfast which included ham and fried eggs,we departed at 9.15am. The sun was shining and the countryside was dramatically beautiful. The sandstone and limestone mountains were of a most unusual shape due to the soft rock being easily ground down by rain over the years. Soon we arrived at our first stop, THE DVIL’S WINDOW.
GREAT FUN, the rock has eroded over thousands of years and people see the face of the devil in it. Lots of photographs taken and a small pottery shop was selling beautiful pottery was there should we feel the need to purchase. Our next stop was THE ENCHANTED CITY...I could not even begin to describe the magnificence of this place. Over thousands of years, the rocks have changed shape and now resemble huge animals, lovers and many more stunning shapes all set in 2.5Kilometres of walking distance. Everyone was in raptures with the place. Back to the bus and a surprise awaited us... tapas had been prepared to keep us going until we had lunch. Fresh bread, local chees and Jamon along with chilled white wine, red wine and Agua! Fabulous. Afterwards we were taken to see the source of the river Cuervo....afterwards we were treated to a superb spanish lunch and to conclude this, we had more music and dancing. Such fun! Back to hotel, dinner at 9pm and more dancing afterwards.
Sadly, after breakfast,we departed with our possessions all onboard and off we went to see the Laguna at Canada. Beautiful, really beautiful. Back on the bus and away we went headed for the city of Cuenca. Stunning, absolutely stunning place. You MUST make the effort to visit it. We say the famous HANGING HOUSES, walked over the St.Pablo Bridge which led to an old Franciscan monastery now being used as a Parador Hotel. Most of us used their toilet facilities and set off again. We alkyd back and looked around the old city and then walked on towards the new city where we enjoyed coffee sitting in the sunshine in the square. With new friends Marion and Jim, we had lunch in a typical spanish restaurant beside the old and beautiful Cathedral *€4.80 per person with headphones if you want to enjoy the history of it). 3 pm ,back at the Castillo, we boarded the bus and said farewell to the exquisite city of Cuenca.
This was a very special trip and because we all dined and danced together, everyone gelled.
Thank you David’s Tours was masterminding this wonderful trip that my husband and I never would have had the opportunity to enjoy without it.
I feel better now that I have taken the time to share this experience with my Forum buddies who are always here to offer help and advice.

We always took visitors on the Daily Coach Trips as the Couriers are so knowledgable and could tell you about the Area we were travelling through. Things you wouldn't find out driving especially with a Sat Nav. They are good value for money.

Glad you enjoyed it..

We went with David´s Coach Trips last year to Mojacar but we were not happy to all sit in a corner of the dining room at long tables all together like in a work house.... as some finished the dirty plates were left on the table for ages.

the dining room was enormous so there was no reason we could not sit at a table for two or four like the other hotel guests.

In the Hotel room everything had to be paid for.. 10 cents for a tea bag, 10 cents for a sugar portion, 10 cents for milk... not a lot of money, I know, but just the principle....

We complained and got no joy...

I think we will try another company next time...
