This could be fun if you are flying 26th or 27th of December, wonder what they will charge you for these dates as the 72 hrs fall over the Christmas holiday

The only exempt countries appear to be Finland, Norway and Greece. All other travellers from EU countries will require a PCR test showing negative in the previous 72 hours. The test is to be carried out in their home country before travel.
The Health Control Form that passengers complete must now include the results. The document can be requested at any time and must be the original in either Spanish or English and submitted in either paper or electronic form.
It can be submitted electronically through the website spth.gob.es and a QR code obtained. If not submitted electronically the original must be carried and shown on demand

The reports say that this is for travellers arriving "at any airport" but gives no indication of other means such as ferry or road.
This may be clarified in the BOE tomorrow and which will become effective from 23rd November (13th November in the Canary Islands).

As i said Marcliff this will be impossible for people flying from the U.K. on the 26 or 27th of December as the test would have to be done either on Christmas Day or Boxing Day when the people who run these services will be on their Xmas holidays , unless something is done by the British government or Spanish there will be a lot of disappointment people.

Are we saying one test to leave and arrive in the UK 72 hours before departure, then another test in the UK (if you can get one done and results back), 72 hrs before returning?

It doesn't say anything about leaving, just on arrival. Unless UK introduces the same system then it would seem just on your return.
Other countries, like Italy, have had this system for a while so, yes, if your trip is over 3 days to Italy then you'd need two tests.

This is the EU site which will be updated every Thursday for the Travel Traffic Light system. PCR tests from Private Clinics in Spain like Quiron are from €120 to €150. Airports will have facilities for PCR tests. I saw a figure of €195 mentioned for a clinic doing PCR tests at Dublin airport.

This is how most EU countries are operating the colour codes vis-a-vis PCR test requirements

People arriving from "green" regions with fewer than 25 Covid infections per 100,000 people in the last 14 days do not need to restrict their movements.

Neither do those travelling from "orange" areas if they produce a negative test taken in the previous three days.

"Red" regions – those with infection rates of 50 or more per 100,000 and positive tests of 4 per cent – must restrict their movement for a minimum of five days before they can take a test that, if returned negative, ends their quarantine, the Government said.

All passengers arriving in Spain by air or sea must undergo a health check before entering the country. These controls may include taking the temperature, a documentary control and a visual control of the passenger's condition.

The provisions of the preceding paragraph shall apply to international passengers whose final destination is Spain and not to those international passengers in transit at a Spanish port or airport with a final destination to another country.

The health control prior to entry will be carried out at the first Spanish port or airport where the passenger arrives.


It then goes on to explain the temperature controls etc already in place, the health form you have to complete and who is responsible for doing the checks etc.

Every passenger from an at risk country must have a diagnostic test for infection for SARS-COV-2 with a negative result carried out in the 72 hour prior to arrival in Spain.

It then goes on to say that tour operators, travel companies etc must make this known to anyone booking a flight. Also who can ask to see the certificate, the format of the certificate and so on.

This will take place from November 23rd but does not, that I can see, mention that arrival by road has the same procedure, just arrivals by air and sea.

Annex 2 to the BOE lists the countries where arrivals will require the test. All EU/EEA countries are listed except for Finland and certain parts of Norway, Greece, Denmark and Portugal (mainly the islands belonging to those countries).

It then lists all third (ie not in the EEA or EU) countries which require a test and, this will get the frothers going, UK is included among them (along with Switzerland). That does make a difference as UK is not included in the EU list of red countries but comes under the number of cases per 100,000 and the percentage of positive cases.

This resolution will take effect as of November 23 and until the Government declares the end of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19

Reference the above, my husband is due to fly from Alicante to Newcastle for a 24 hr visit, going on 5th December back on 6th December. Do you know if he's ok getting one of the €30 tests done at La Siesta Clinic on the 4th December?

It depends on what type of test they do at La Siesta and you'd have to ask them what it is.

If the test is the antibody or antigen test (which I think it probably is at that price) then it won't be acceptable.

The Diagnostic Test for Active Infection for SARS-CoV-2 supported is PCR (COVID-19 RT-PCR).

As long as its harmonized use is not accepted in the European Union, other diagnostic tests such as rapid antibody tests, rapid antigen detection tests or high performance serologies (ELISA, CLIA, ECLIA) will not be accepted.

If the test carried out by La Siesta Clinic is the recognised PCR test published in the BOE then yes it will comply.
