Thanks so much for your latest update Marcliff. Good to hear some of the older residents of Rojales have been called up and with your latest post I look forward to getting the call in the next few months. Hopefully we can move into some kind of ‘new norma’ going forward.

In the last 14 days, the accumulated incidence of the CV in the Valencia Region has dropped to 244 per 100,000 which is below the 250 which represent extreme risk. This is a huge drop from the almost 1500 per 100,000 at the end of January. In Spain as a whole, the incidence is 252 per 100,000 but 11 regions are below the 250 rate.
In the Alicante province, the number of cases has dropped to just 65 in the last day and the number of deaths down to 14 since Saturday. In the Valencian Region as a whole there have been 189 cases and 35 new deaths since Saturday (they were unable to release figures for the weekend).
These are the figures the committee meeting tomorrow will take into account when deciding on the de-escalation of restrictions in the Community. The only thing holding it back would be the percentage of positive cases which stands at 14% and is almost double the Spanish average at 8% plus the numbers in hospital and ICUs is still at a high level
Ximo Puig has again stated the de-escalation will be gradual and the new restrictions will be announced on Thursday. The hostelry organisations have called for full opening of the terraces and 50% inside with 6 people allowed at one table. Ximo Puig has said this will not happen but the terraces could be opened with a limited number of tables and an early closure of all establishments at either 5 or 6 pm.
3 other Spanish regions have already extended the perimeter closure until Easter. Ximo Puig said that, if the perimeters are opened, he will call for them to be closed again over the Holy week to cut down the amount of social travel.
All restrictions currently in force will be looked at and modified as necessary by Thursday at the latest.
Vaccines for the over 80s continues at their home and they will start calling forward those over 80 to the health centres this week but no actual day has yet been given.
Restricted travel from the UK to Spain is still in force until next Tuesday. Some regions have forbidden travel from France and Spain has restricted travel from Portugal by road.
It would seem people are still not strictly adhering to the rules put in place. There were 3,000 fines put in place over the weekend for ignoring the rules on leaving or entering the large municipalities where they are closed between 3pm on Friday to 6am on Monday. There have also been hundreds of fines of 100 euro for not wearing a facemask in a car when members of more then one household is present.

The Alicante province is no longer in a state of extreme risk as the cumulative cases drop to 202 per 100,000. Only Elche and Elda exceed this figure.
Figures over the weekend show that there were 17 new cases in Rojales with no deaths and 73 in Torrevieja with, unfortunately, 2 deaths.
The cumulative figure will be used by the meeting over the next two days to decide on the de-escalation of restrictions. The hoteliers have asked for the terraces to be opened and 30% interior of bars and restaurants with a maximum of 6 at a table.
The President of the community has counter offered just the terraces being opened with 50% capacity and just during the day time.
He also said he is looking into the cancellation of the perimeter closure in big cities at weekends but didn't mention anything about the Valencia Community perimeter closure although he did mention that the lowering of restrictions will be done gradually and not in one fell swoop.
Good news is that the number of deaths amongst those in residences has reduced by 18% since the vaccines have been given in 2 doses and a magnificent drop of 77% in the number of cases for health workers. Almost 1,200,000 people in Spain have now received both doses of the vaccine. Hospitals are no longer at critical with more discharged than admitted.

As I have mentioned the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in previous posts - I feel that is correct that I should post the following.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has endorsed the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to receive emergency use authorisation, a critical step to bring a third Covid-19 jab to the United States.
In a staff report released on Wednesday, the federal agency found the vaccine to be safe, effective, and able to completely prevent hospitalisations and deaths when reviewing data from a large clinical trial.
&
Johnson & Johnson is currently researching if a second dose of its vaccine could improve efficacy against the novel virus.
