There is absolute consternation in Alicante and Benidorm with their inclusion in the Curfew. The hotel cancellations have started. Snr Puig has been given a tongue lashing by the Mayor of Alicante who is accusing him of allowing this to happen by letting 3000 healthcare workers go when he should have used them to roll out the vaccines.

Two official DOGV published yesterday. The first to deal with the limited mobility in certain municipalities (already listed on here) and the limitation of groups, in both private and public places, to 10 people except where the group is from one household or two households from the same family.

The other to deal with bar opening hours, limitation at sporting events, in sporting areas including swimming pools and so on.

However, the sale of alcohol for takeaway consumption, supermarkets etc, has not been changed to 2200 to 0700 instead of 2000 to 0700.

15. Measures related to the sale and consumption of alcohol

Snr Puig is going back to the TSJ (Court) again for a renewal of the curfew order. It is expected he will be given permission although a few of the TSJs of the Autonomous Regions have refused to continue the sanctions.

The Supreme Court of Valencia gave its approval last week for the curfews which started yesterday.
They are in existence until 16th August.

Not wanting to be a Jeremiah and only talk of bad news but it has been reported that the Valencia Region has had its highest number of reported cases today since the bad days back in February.
Almost 3,500 cases reported.

And, remember the good old days (just 5 weeks ago) when Alicante province was the province in the whole of Europe with the lowest number of cases, deaths and accumulated rates?
Now up to 1,285 reported today which is 10 times the amount just 5 weeks ago.

So it hasn't gone away, unfortunately. I don't know if opening up to tourism has anything to do with it but the cases started rising just a few weeks after that happened.

Now, Germany requires even double jabbed visitors from Spain to show a negative test as well (as it does with the Netherlands).
Those non vaccinated and travelling to France from Spain (and Cyprus, Netherlands, Portugal and Greece in the EU) must have a negative test within 24 hours of your flight.

Quite a few people around Quesada and Benijofar this morning not wearing masks (or having them around their chins) despite the fact it was quite busy.
Yes, it is easy to forget. I've almost entered 2 shops without the mask when my wife as shouted out "mask" at me.

The way it's going, the Valencian president has said he will be pushing for an extension of some of the current restrictions at the interdepartmental meeting next week although he has ruled out using the covid passport to attend bars/restaurants etc but did not rule out bringing this in once everyone has been offered the vaccines. Some regions will start vaccinating the over 12s from next week but the Valencian Region is still mass vaccinating the 20 to 29 year olds and still have some 50,000 aged between 60 and 69 to get their second jabs.

In Spain as a whole, around 68% of the total population have had at least one jab with 57% having had both. Applying that to the adult population of 38,690,000* it would mean 82% with one dose and almost 70% with both doses. The target of 70% to be reached by the end of August refers to the entire population including children.

*(Over 18 Adult population as reported for 2020)

I can't find any figures for hospitalisations. That is the big difference with the numbers this time. They are not translating into high numbers in hospital or ICU. Although they should get a move on with the vaccines for the 16 year olds up as that is the only remedy to keep it at bay. A few pop-up centres with no appointment for walk-in jabs would hurry it up.

Hospitalisations and ICU admittances in the Valencia Region are six times greater than they were at the beginning of the month.

On July 1st, the Valencia Region had 151 hospitalised and this is now 689. That's a 351% increase.
On July 1st, there were 17 patients in the ICU. There are now 107 which is the highest figure since March and an increase of 529%.

The highest number of hospitalisations are in the 20 to 39 age group which is why the mass vaccination scheme is now calling them forward for the vaccines.
Despite a UK study saying a longer gap between vaccines is better, not something that has been borne out by studies carried out by the CDC (USA) and Carlos III institute (Spain) they will stick to the 3 weeks for the Pfizer vaccine.

Almost 60% of the whole population of the Valencia Region have now received both doses.

The other point is, if you read the UK press, they are on about the "high rise" in the Beta variant (which used to be called the S African variant).
This is a load of made up rubbish. The Delta (what used to be the Indian variant) is the dominant strain. In the Spanish press the Beta variant is rarely mentioned.
According to the Telegraph, the Beta (the one causing concern in the rags) accounts for 2.9% of the total number of new cases in Spain. That's down from 9% last week but is being cited by the UK press as being the reason Spain could be put on amber plus or even red (how many of these stupid levels can they come up with?).

Now, I've been a Tory voter my entire life (OK, shoot me!) and I mean ever since I've been allowed the vote which is many years. The conflicting stories coming from this current lot makes me despair, really despair. Do they argue about things in their cabinet meetings and then say things to the press which is then denied by someone else?

No leadership, no singing from the same songsheet, no agreeing on anything. Such a shame the alternative seems even worse.

And the "traffic light" system must be the worst thought out idea ever. OK, Red, Amber, Green. Then they come out with Amber plus, then it's Amber watch list or Red watch list.

I really, really want to go to UK to see my grandkids. One lot I've not seen for 2 years and the other lot for 20 months. Pointless going if I have to self isolate for 10 days or, worse, quarantine in some grotty airport hotel for 10 days and pay a fortune to do so.

Unusual for me to get too het up about anything but, FGS, UK get your damn act in order!!!
