Thanks Marcliff. I would say it's a long time since any heed was placed on the number of people in supermarkets. Snr Puig is doing a bit of huffing and puffing but he can see there is no point in prolonging the measures as their time has passed and normality has resumed.

The cumulative cases in the Valencia Region have now dropped to 40 in 100,000 which is at low risk.
The interdepartmental meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss the restrictions currently in place which expires at midnight this Friday and is hinting that all restrictions will be removed except for facemasks.

Sr Puig's suggestion of covid passports to enter discos and mass events is still on the table but the Supreme Court of Valencia has stated that they would only them in places which are at high risk and, as the region is now low risk, they would not agree unless it could be shown these events pose a higher threat. Some regions in Spain have already introduced the covid passport as being necessary to enter bars, restaurants, cinemas and other venues open to the public.

The hostelry associations have requested the removal of the facemask requirement to enter nightlife venues but the Generalitat has indicated this will not be waived as it is a national requirement.

Valencia region still hasn't quite reached the 90% double vaccination of all those over 12 with 89% completed. The health department is urging the "deniers" to have them done.

The Spanish health authorities are also meeting to discuss the booster vaccine now that this has been given the go ahead by the EMA. If this is agreed, those over 65 will be the first to receive it along with those in residential homes and underlying medical problems. The Valencia health authorities have stated that, if this goes ahead, they will reopen the mass vaccination centres but will also be looking at giving the flu vaccine at the same time as the booster for over 65s if the result of trials prove positive.

Edited to add:
The Spanish health authorities have now authorised the booster vaccine starting with the over 70s from October 25th. This will be the Pfizer vaccine and the use of Moderna is still being discussed. The booster will be given 6 months after receiving the second dose.

Cumulative cases in the Valencia Region have dropped to 38 in 100,000 so confirmed that the low risk condition continues. In the Alicante Province, the total number of cases notified today was 48, the first time it has been below 50 for four months and Spain in total has also dropped to 48 in 100,000 which means the whole country is now classed as low risk. This is the first time the whole country has been at low risk since July 2020.

As expected, the interdepartmental meeting has agreed on the relaxation in restrictions as from Saturday 9th October (Valencia Day). Sr Puig has appeared to relay this news.

He said we are still going to have to live with the virus for some time but, because of good indications, all restrictions on opening hours and capacities in bars, restaurants and nightlife are now cancelled.

However, the use of the mask will still remain in operation and must be worn inside establishments, in crowded outdoor areas where the 1.5 m social distancing cannot be guaranteed, on public transport and in private cars where the passengers are not from the same household.

There will be lots of other detail which will come out in the DOGV, hopefully issued later today or early tomorrow so I will keep an eye out for that.

I have a particular interest in all this lot at the moment as my oldest daughter, a nurse in UK, has come down with the covid virus as has her youngest son, 13. They have both been unwell for 2 weeks now and she is double vaccinated but the 13 year is improving although she is still quite poorly. Hence rather a lot of worry in our household at the moment. She could have caught it from one of her patients and passed it on to her son or the son could have caught it at school (quite a lot of them off at the moment) and passed it on to her. The doctors just don't know.

Her husband, who I would really worry about as he had heart surgery about 4 years ago, and her eldest son, 18, haven't been affected.

Thanks Marcliff

Our thoughts are with you and we hope that your daughter and granddaughter get well soon.

My brother and sister in law also recently tested positive but they seem to have quite mild symptoms.

As to say we will be living with this for the foreseeable future.

Best wishes to your and your family.

The restriction on 10 to a table inside is maintained as is the wearing of a facemask when dancing.
Limits on sporting facilities such as gyms and swimming pools are cancelled.
Events, celebrations, parades and so on have restrictions cancelled but, if standing, a personal distance must be maintained. The ban on smoking in the street without the 2m distance is maintained as is the ban on smoking on terraces.

The covid passport will not be introduced at the moment due to legal reasons but may be introduced in the future.

Thank you. We sent her some flowers today (my wife is extremely worried and upset) and she rang to say she thought they were lovely. She did, however, sound terrible and it's been just over two weeks now. I think the grandson is getting better as he came on and said he'd help his Mum eat the chocolates that came with the flowers and he's sounding much better.

Thankfully she's not been admitted so the doctors can't think it's too serious (I Hope).

No DOGV published as yet. These are the main points from the interdepartmental meeting yesterday which cancelled most of the restrictions against Covid in the Valencia Region.

Facemask. Still mandatory for all those over 6 years old inside establishments open to the public and in outdoor areas where the social distance of 1.5m cannot be guaranteed, for example markets, shopping malls and urban centres.

Smoking. All forms of smoking are banned in areas where a minimum space of 2m cannot be guaranteed. All forms of smoking on terraces in bars and restaurants are banned regardless of the distance.

Table capacity. Tables inside all hostelry establishments are limited to 10 people.

Cinemas, theatres etc. No restriction on capacity unless food and drink is consumed in which case a one seat space is to be observed.

What is allowed:
All schedules for opening hours and capacity have been removed. Consumption is allowed at the bar. Dancing is allowed in venues licenced for such purposes but no food or drink is allowed on the dance floor and face masks must be worn.

Celebrations, parades etc. All restrictions are removed on attendance but, if those attending are standing, a distance of 2.25m must be maintained (I had to double check that but that's what it says).

Festivals and large events. Public now allowed to stand. If the event organiser voluntarily requests the covid passport for entry, the 2.25m distance can be avoided.

Gyms and swimming pools. All restrictions are eliminated.

It wasn't stated but I'm assuming that the use of the facemask will still be required when moving around inside restaurants and bars etc.

The imserso (holidays for oldies) will start again in November.

This will become active tomorrow, Saturday 9th October.

I've had a couple of question asked about the wearing of facemasks. Cars, airports etc seem to be the main points.

So just to give the latest rules as published in the DOGV which cancels most of the restrictions:

Those over the age of six are obliged to wear facemasks inside any establishment open to the public.

In any outdoor space where the interpersonal space of 1.5m cannot be guaranteed except in the case of cohabitants. This includes markets, shopping malls and any crowded urban area.

On all public transport, transport stations (air, rail, bus, ferry etc). In any public or private transport where the occupants, including the driver, do not live in the same household.

On passenger ships, ferries, boats but not inside the cabin or on open decks where the distance of 1.5m can be guaranteed.

In hotels, restaurants, bars or any other hostelry establishment serving food and drink except when actually eating or drinking.

Those exempt will be those who have some type of illness or respiratory disease making the use of the mask incompatible or those whose disabilities make it impossible to remove the mask themselves.

In any activity that makes the use of the mask unfeasible such as sporting events the mask will not be necessary.

Inside closed institutions, carers in resident homes, residents thereof and anyone whose duties oblige them to work in such institutions, the use of the mask will not be necessary provided the residents, staff and workers have at least an 80% incidence of double vaccination against covid.
The above will not apply to visitors or temporary workers in such establishments who must maintain the distance of 1.5m.

One other thing, the DOGV says the maximum number seated at a table in bars and restaurants will be 10 and that applies to the outside terraces as well as the interiors.

The occupation of the tables will be a maximum of 10 people per table or groupings of tables, unless they are cohabiting or are of different nuclei of large families, both inside the premises as in outdoor spaces and terraces. The distance between tables will be at least 1.5 metres inside establishments and on outdoor terraces.
