Double knee replacement

Hi, I'm posting for another person who does not have a computer. Has anyone experienced having a double knee replacement (or perhaps one) as I'm wondering what the difference is in terms of expected wait time to have the surgery done public vs. private? Also, what would the recovery time potentially be post-surgery? Lots to consider, and the lady is in her mid-80s. Thanking you in advance for any responses. Cheers, Trish

Private hands down for how quickly it can be done, maybe in the next few weeks, they want your money and lots of it. Public could be a long time firstly see the doctor as they will have to refer you to a Consultant and if they agree, then the waiting game starts.

Thanks Chrisdee. Hospital doctor tells her she should have it done, but her family doctor says no which only adds to her being uncertain as to what to do. Cheers.

My wife had it done. It was a life changer. Could hardly walk before. It's a very painful op and took 4 months to recover.

My friends sister had one knee replaced but that was in the UK, and it took her 6 weeks to recover but I was thinking with 2 knees at the same time it certainly would take a lot longer. But good to know your wife didn't have any regrets. Was it done privately or did she have to wait a long time? Cheers.

If their doctor says no then it's no, they'd have to ask the reason why the doctor says no.

Probably because in her mid 80*s the anaesthetic is probably more dangerous than the op.,but her doctor should be informing why he*s advising not to do it. Good luck to her.

You know in your 80s isn't it more about quality of life rather than quantity. Her Dr needs to say what her/his medical objection is to the operation. I doubt that consultants will be in agreement if it is solely based on age as they would be performing the operation every day on older people. If you looked at the statistics it would be the elderly who would make up the highest cohort.

An article in Informacion today says waiting times for surgery have fallen to 35 days for orthopaedic surgery. So once you get on the waiting list you won't have long to wait.
