Driving to ferry?

Driving to ferry?

Postby park footer » Sat Apr 04, 2020 2:26 pm

We have a booking on 25th April from Santander to go home to the Uk. Assuming it is not cancelled does anyone know if the one in a car and other rules allow us to drive there. We don’t want to get half way there and then get turned back. Did think about going to the police srpation in Rosales to ask but not sure if even that is allowed. Any help would be appreciated.

If it is not cancelled you will be able to drive with others in the car if you are driving back to the uk to return to your primary residential address. The n332 website and I presume the gov site too have a form that you can print off to show to the police stops on the way. It is in english spanish and french informing them you are returning home and asking them to allow you to carry on with your journey.

Someone else on the forum had posted to say they had driven back through france from quesada and found the police on both sides very helpful.

Good luck

you need a permit from the police to authorise the journey. Are you sure the ferries are running? Before anything that needs to be clarified, I thought ferries had been cancelled or was that only temporarily?

We are booked on 10th May to see family in UK, we have received an email recently to say we will be contacted nearer the time if it is still sailing, but at present all Brittany ferries are cancelled other than for freight. Our ferry was from Santander. Think when we get nearer the time should things improve here, we will choose to rearrange until UK is, and hopefully everyone else, is in a more safer situation.

The Spanish government have extended the state of urgency to the 26th April now so I'm afraid you won't be able to travel before then. If you look at El Pais you will see that it is expected there will be further restrictions after that date. You also have to be sure that you will be able to travel in France. I would stay put until you are sure you will be able to complete your journey and not be stuck anywhere, possibly with large fines on top of that.

Yes you can travel if it is to your primary residence or to return to your home country. There is no ban on essential travel even if we are in isolation until the 26th. If the op has any doubt I would advise checking with the uk consulate here in spain.
