I have sent an email to both the British Consulate in Alicante and to the EU complaints department questioning this decision.
There is nothing in the EU regulations that require either proof of income for 2 years in the country you intend living in (which would be impossible for people just coming over) nor for the need to have a marriage certificate at all let alone translated into Spanish.
I await a reply from either or both.

I'm not panacking....that's what they want you to do! Yes they are swamped. with applications, but honestly what is the panic, IF the uk leave as planned on 29th March, there will be at least a 2yr transition period for everyone to sort everything.....if not, what will happen???? nothing I suspect...scaremongering/ money making ( Passports for one) We will see, don't stress yourselves, we don't live in Spain for that! Enjoy yourselves,Happy life to you all xx

There is another part of this statement that is strange in that it is only covering people of pensionable age, so for me I would not be able to be a resident for another four years.

No you can apply but need private medical insurance as we do anyway.

You need private medical insurance if you do not have residency. Once you get residency, if you or your partner is over pensionable age, then the S1 gives you entitlement to health care. It only needs one of you to be pensionable, then the other person gets it as well. This is the position we are - im im 64, wife is 70, we both just got residencia last month, she gets Spanish Health care entitlemet, i piggy back on her and also get it.

Totally agree....but when we went Wednesday the Spanish policeman wanted two years bank accounts, we only had three months, plus he wanted our marriage certificate translated into Spanish. We both had S1s and our private insurance. I am under pensionable age hubby is not. He was having none of it and stood to his guns re the bank statements. So we await the next appointment will go armed with what he insists he needs. Unless there is a new notice on the wall lol.
