Hi folks just to say that my wife and i had our bubble burst this morning by the police at ORIHUELA our representative was turned away because we did not meet their requirements which were at least E7000 IN THE BANK HERE plus our pension being paid into the spanish account etc etc so annoyed what a waste of our time we also provided proof of ownership of our property here plus the uk which is being sold which is also paid for so we are hardly going to be scroungers on the Spanish community having recently paid e20000 in taxes on our property purchase they didn't turn that away.

On a similar note, i found this on the net:
" a similar case heard in January, in which a Polish couple who were unlawfully detained for more than five months were awarded nearly £90,000 in damages by the High Court.
Iwona Deptka, 33, and Henry Sadlowski, 38, were unlawfully held for 154 days after they were found sleeping rough in Lancashire.
The European commission has said EU member states have no right to deport EU citizens for being homeless and said EU citizens had a right to live in other EU countries 'irrespective of whether they are homeless or not'."
That would seem to make illegal nonsense of the Spanish requirement for residencia?

From Jim Taylor....
https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/almorad%C3%AD-spain-11/residency-in-almorad%C3%AD-padron-residencia-passport-advice-23/jims-tip-residency-appointments-change-of-procedure-56322/
“Although it's not yet national, some expat popular provinces like Alicante have changed the appointments system. I understand they are also notifying those who already have appointments for later than March 29th that they need to obtain a new appointment because of this change in procedure.
It seems that, at the moment, appointments when available will only be at the immigration offices and not the police stations.
From what information I've been able to obtain, I understand that more information will be forthcoming shortly, the most important of which will be details of what financial requirements have to be met.
To see for yourself what I mean, go to:
https://sede.administracionespublicas.g ... index.html
Select Alicante as province then click Aceptar
In TRÁMITES DISPONIBLES, select TRAMITE PARA LA DOCUMENTACIÓN DE NACIONALES DEL REINO UNIDO then click Aceptar
You're then told:
This procedure has been enabled as a result of the next exit from the United Kingdom of the European Union for national citizens of the United Kingdom who reside in Spain prior to the date of withdrawal and do not have a Certificate of registration.
From now on, the information will be updated and, in any case, before going to your appointment at the Immigration Office, consult this page to check the documentation that will be necessary to present.
Then click Entrar to solicit an appointment.
However, at the moment they aren't offering appointments.
Feedback from anyone affected by this change, or from anyone who picks up updates on requirements etc would be appreciated.”
Pete.

In relation to my first post, I have now obtained a copy of the notice that the Elche police station put up on Wednesday last. Hopefully it will be of some use to anyone attending there regarding Residency in the future. We have also put it in English for those who might not be able to completely understand the Spanish version. But please note that it is the best we can do and may not be completely correct re translation.

So that 2 years of bank accounts in Spain only applies to those who are requesting permanent residency after being resident in Spain for 5 years or more. Not for those applying for initial residency.

Well yes but not according to the policeman that dealt with us. As I said I was not going to argue. So next appointment I will take them anyway.

Yet Nannyabroad was knocked back for not having 2 years' bank statements though she was only going for initial residency... and Ypresrallying knocked back for not having pension evidence AND 7k in the bank although it says here it is either/or ( pension evidence for pensioners, 7k for people not pensioners and not working. )
So is it simply overzealous officials misinterpreting or misapplying the regulations ? Seems to be getting to the point of it being just down to luck and how the relevant official feels on the day ....
