Electricity

Electricity

Postby achoosey » Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:52 am

Hi, can anyone tell me how this off peak electricity works with the readings please, example the last reading to your new reading will be the figure you pay, how do they know you have used electricity in the off peak times? The meter reader is just taking your reading, not what time you use it..... or does your meter move slower on off peak ?

With smart meters, there is no meter reader. It gets logged at the central monitoring station and the times used are recorded. They charge you the rate applicable at the time of use.

Gone are the days of the chap with clipboard and baseball cap coming round and writing it on his pad.

Just received my first bill since the new sectionionalised rates have come in.
We have always had two different rates, P1 and P2 for the two rates.
These are the rates used,
(There are numerous differing rates, make certain you use the Energy Cost price)

P1. Energy Cost price. = 0.085270€/kWh. Dear rate. 1000am-1400, 1800pm-2200

P2. Energy Cost price = 0.081432€/kWh. Cheap rate. 0800am-1000, 1400pm-1800, 2200pm-midnight

This month a new rate has been added to the existing P1 and P2, namely P3.

P3. Energy Cost price = 0.079645€/kWh. Super Cheap. Midnight-0800am

If you are careful with your use/timings it is possible to save money against the old system.

Also the VAT RATE has been cut by the government to 10% instead of 21%

If possible put Dishwasher, washing machine and pool pump ON OVERNIGHT.

Don’t forget it’s SUPER CHEAP RATE :- Friday midnight to Monday 0800am. That’s ALL WEEKEND.

Thanks for the reply, yes we have started to heat water and put a wash in at midnight, hoping the bills will go down

It is worth adding smart plugs which you can then either just switch on via an app on your phone or set a timer to come on during the cheap night hours. You can also get one integrated with the pool pump so avoids the need to physically switch it on at the pump. Also handy if you are away from the home to be able to press a button on the phone worldwide to have the pump come on!

First time I have seen actual unit prices. Not that much difference between 3 prices. Not really worth the hassle of organising your life around leccy prices. Only 10% difference between highest and lowest.

Just got our bill for June. 25th May to 24th June so full 31 days but it's the lowest bill I think I've ever had at €47.69.

Difference appears to be on the amount for the contracted power. Before it was my 5.75Kw contracted at one rate but now shows a Peak power charge of 10 cents and an off peak power charge of 0.004 cents.

Then I get a promotional energy charge of 11 cents per Kwh and a non promotional energy charge of 21 cents per Kwh. (we are on the pick your 8 hours tariff). Both the energy charges are higher than previous at 9 cents promotional and non promotional at 19 cents but the power consumption charge was 12 cents per kwh for the full 24 hours.

Not complaining.
