I have taken out an annual car hire excess policy with Blue Insurance for a couple of years now and had the misfortune to make a claim from them.

I have to say that they were very professional and paid out promptly.

BTW, most car hire companies block up to E1,500 euros off your credit card before they'll hire you the car without taking their insurance policy. Make sure that your CC has enough left to allow them to take the E1,500

It's a racket by the hire companies, but you have to play by their rules if you want to hire their cars. The car hire excess insurance is where they often make most of their money, so that's why they give you the hard sell at the customer service desk.

Hiya

Thinking about doing this.

Can you please tell me what car hire companies kick up the less fuss when returning the car?
I don't intend to damage the car lol, but imagine some are worse than others :-)

Many thanks

The top line is always read the small sprint. I checked out 3 xs companies. One would not cover because I hasd already reserveds the car. One would not cover hiring a car from my country of residentc which I needed becauase my car was in the body shop for 4 months. Finaly I found worldwideinsure.com which cover all of the above. The only thing with this system is you are not covered for breakdown but they are all new cars so that was a small risk in my opinion. Yes I was hiring cars for 1 or 2 euros per day from the big companies but you do not benefit from these prices high season and holidays. Check very carefully the condition of the car before you over it as I have found under and upper body damage not noted on their sheet but I bet it would surface when you return it. Good luck.

When you return the hire car at the airport, ensure that you have the car signed off by a company rep who should inspect the car with you and get a stamp on the same paperwork at the office,(in the car park) this avoids any charges being levied against your credit card should you just turn up and hand the keys back.
