Exchange of Information regarding taxation

Exchange of Information regarding taxation

Postby Singer » Wed Nov 25, 2020 2:04 pm

Since 2016 many countries have gone live with Exchange of Information regarding taxation. Spain and UK being two of them.

If anyone has received a letter from Hacienda saying they have incorrectly reported their interest on UK bank accounts from previous years (2016 onwards) and they, like me, do not agree, could they please pm me so that we can discuss further. I have received such a letter, but I know I have done things correctly. I, and my tax advisor, are baffled by their figures, and I am wondering whether I am the only one ...

I look forward to hearing from you!

I think Spain must be getting short of money as they seem to be sending spurious letters out to many people. I have received one saying I have not declared my local government pension, although declared in Spain it is taxed in the U.K. I took the letter to the company that deals with my tax declarations and they are sorting it out. Apparently many people are getting letters regarding tax for a variety of reasons.

Yes, i too have received notification from Hacienda, via my advisor, that my figures don't correspond to theirs. It seems they are questioning if my Civil service pension is actually what it is, a civil service pension, my advisor is" on the case"

We suffered a similar plight and were fined, with the money being taken out of our account. My wife had been a local authority employee. Our tax returns were completed every year for 18 years, with full disclosure of all income using The Real Tax Bureau (RTB), Torrevieja. We still have no idea what the fine was for because the three page document from the Tributaria was in Spanish and full of legal gobbledegook. To make matters even more frustrating, despite sending copies of the documentation to RTB, followed up by emails and a telephone call, they continued to ignored our request for reasons, and have failed to get back to us with any explanation. We will be looking for a new consultancy in 2021.

I dont know if its the same thing.

Last year had an awkward time with the tax people. Had to attend with my accountant.
Have to say they were very friendly. The problem, people are claiming they were civil servants and they were not.
Once again the rip off merchants cause problems for the people who want to do it correctly.
All sorted,
T
