Faulty water meter

Faulty water meter

Postby Paul58 » Tue Dec 06, 2022 1:47 pm

Hi,

I've just tried to turn off the water at our meter but found that the taps in the apartment are still working. I left a tap running and returned to the communal water cupboard to double check I'd turned off the right meter and to tighten the valve as much as possible. The meter is the correct one and the valve is very tight but the wheel in the meter is still spinning.
I've had to turn off the 2nd valve which is before the meter to get the wheel & water flow to stop. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to resolve it?

I'm currently in the UK but looking to get this sorted when I return after Christmas.

Many thanks.

It happened to me so I replaced the valve, recommend you get it sorted as the water board will not.

Not a help with changing tap,but even if you do get it replaced, always turn the inlet tap off into the meter, because if you don’t & have a leak on the outlet tap,the meter will record the usage & you’ll probably have to pay for the usage.

Thanks all,
I didn't realise that I was responsible for the fitting, it looks like it's part of the meter. However, It's good to know that it's not an uncommon failure.
I'll get a plumber to sort this when I get back, thank you for the recommendation. I'll certainly be closing the valve before the meter next time we leave.

Hope this is a warning for others who may not check that the water is actually not flowing before leaving for a long absence.

Thanks again :text-thankyouyellow:
